Tweed Family Charitable Foundation

Tweed Family Charitable Foundation Grants

A small family foundation offering up to three new grants a year, typically up to £10,000 a year for up to three years, to charities helping socially disadvantaged young people under 25. It looks for work with smaller groups sustained over the longer term — mentoring, education, character-building and vocational experiences — rather than one-off presentations or short courses reaching large numbers. Approaches are only accepted in a narrow window: 1 to 12 February 2027, through a form on the foundation's website, starting with no more than 250 words about your work.

Who can apply

  • Charitable organisations whose work meets the foundation's objectives: promoting life-enhancing opportunities for socially disadvantaged young people under the age of 25
  • The foundation asks applicants to work through its published checklist before approaching, which turns on whether you are based in or support activities outside England and Wales, whether your 2027 income is budgeted above £500,000, whether you are a standalone entity affiliated to a larger national organisation, whether you support the wider community as well as young people under 25, whether your reach is wide coverage or smaller cohorts over the longer term, whether you offer counselling and one-to-one mental health support, and whether you charge those attending your activities
  • Beyond these, the foundation is explicit that it is seeking causes with which it feels an affinity as a family, and says that is sometimes difficult to define
  • Only up to three new grants are made each year

What it funds

  • Life-enhancing opportunities for socially disadvantaged young people under the age of 25
  • The opportunities may be educational in the broadest sense, character building or vocational, and should provide experiences that would otherwise be inaccessible to the young people concerned without the foundation's financial support

The stated aim is to inspire young people to live full and valuable lives and to break the cycle of chaos that many experience, developing social, practical and life skills through mentoring, education and community activities.

Grants would typically be up to £10,000 a year for up to three years, and the foundation wants to build a relationship with the charities it supports.

What it will not fund

  • Programmes that seek to touch large numbers through one-off presentations, short courses or stand-alone experiences, which the foundation says it is less likely to support

the foundation will not consider any approach made outside its 1-12 February window

its own checklist asks whether you are based outside England and Wales, budget 2027 income above £500,000, are a standalone entity affiliated to a larger national organisation, support the wider community as well as under-25s, reach large numbers rather than small cohorts, offer counselling and one-to-one mental health support, or charge those attending — these are the things it uses to decide whether it is the right funder for you

How to apply

  1. Work through the foundation's online checklist first to see whether it is the right funder for you — it asks you to be honest rather than simply trying
  2. Wait for the approach window, which opens on the foundation's website on 1 February 2027 and closes on 12 February 2027
  3. Use the form on the website to tell the foundation about yourselves and your work in no more than 250 words
  4. If the foundation thinks it may feel an affinity with your cause, it will ask you to complete a full application form

approaches made outside 1-12 February will not be considered at all

only up to three new grants are made each year, so the process is highly competitive

Have ready

  • Note: nothing is required for the initial approach beyond a description of your work in 250 words or fewer
  • A full application form is requested only from those the foundation invites to the second stage
