South Yorkshire's Community Foundation
RWE Tween Bridge Wind Farm Community Fund
RWE's Tween Bridge Wind Farm Community Fund, run by South Yorkshire's Community Foundation, funds community organisations, schools and parish councils for projects benefiting residents within 3 miles of the Tween Bridge wind farm near Thorne, Doncaster. Most grants are £500-£7,500 to spend within a year; more may be considered in exceptional circumstances, and multi-year grants of up to £15,000 over three years are possible. Applications are rolling and considered at periodic panels; capital and revenue costs, including salaries, can be funded.

Who can apply
- Community organisations including charities, community groups, clubs and not-for-profit social enterprises; local schools and colleges; and parish and town councils from within the Area of Benefit
- All applicants must have beneficiaries within the Area of Benefit - a 3-mile radius around Tween Bridge Wind Farm covering Thorne and Moorends and parts of Hatfield, Hatfield Woodhouse, Fosterhouses, Stainforth, Ealand, Fishlake, Crowle and Sandtoft - and be able to evidence this
- Organisations based in the area are prioritised; those based outside are considered case by case and must show clear benefit to local residents and a serious commitment to match funding
- Applicants need a governing document, a board or committee of at least three unrelated people, and a bank account in the group's name requiring two unrelated signatories; very small or new groups without a bank account may apply through a partner organisation after speaking to SYCF
What it funds
Projects benefiting residents of the Area of Benefit that support one or more fund themes:
- Local community
- Fighting climate change and protecting the natural environment
- Education and training
- Physical and mental health and wellbeing
- Children and young people
- Emerging local needs and emergency situations
- Vulnerable or isolated older people
Costs can be capital (equipment, building works or repairs where you own or lease the building/land) or revenue (room hire, volunteer expenses, sessional staff or salaries such as extra hours or a short-term contract), plus a fair, explained share of overheads.
Staff cost requests must show contribution to fund aims, how pay was set (Living Wage encouraged), a job description and person specification, and the recruitment process or previous funding of the post.
Religious organisations can be funded for community-benefit activity such as a food bank.
What it will not fund
- Metropolitan Borough Councils
- For-profit organisations
- Individuals
- Activity for private benefit (schemes individuals can access, such as an educational bursary, may be acceptable)
- Activity that promotes particular religious or political views, including religious services
- Activity which replaces existing statutory provision (though such facilities could be enhanced, e.g. parks)
- Things that have already happened
- Projects SYCF considers may be unsafe or against the interests of the developer or wind farm landowner(s)
- Projects starting before 1 December (current panel round)
