Leslie Sell Charitable Trust

The Peter Sell Award

The Peter Sell Award is an award of up to £5,000 in total from the Leslie Sell Charitable Trust to Scout or Guide group(s), for projects that widen engagement in Scouting and Guiding - especially bringing in people who have not taken part before - and leave a lasting legacy, for example through environmental projects. It is meant to cover something different from the Trust's normal small grants. Applications are a two-page A4 submission by email, considered at the Trustees' March and October meetings.

Who can apply

  • Scout or Guide groups (Scout and Guide movement) based in the UK
  • The award goes to a group or groups, not individuals

What it funds

  • Projects that widen engagement and involvement in Scouting and Guiding, in particular encouraging people who have not previously engaged with scouting or guiding to do so, and that will have a legacy beyond the initial spend of the grant - e.g. through a focus on and engagement in environmental projects

Recent winners funded an eco-friendly barn renovation, urban beekeeping, a low-impact Explorer base camp and a mobile activity unit.

What it will not fund

Applications that fall within the Trust's normal grant criteria for groups or individuals

How to apply

  1. Write an application of no more than two sides of A4 in 12 point or larger font covering: name of the Scout or Guide group; contact details (address, phone, email); amount required; brief description of what would be done with the money; how it would widen involvement in scouting or guiding, with approximate numbers of people involved; why the application is special and should be funded; and the environmental impact of the project
  2. Email the application to admin@lesliesellct.org.uk by 14 February (for the March Trustees' meeting) or the September deadline (for the October meeting)

Photos, drawings or other pictures may be included, but no additional written material.
