Who can apply

  • Registered charities, CIOs, CICs, non-profit sports clubs, other voluntary and community groups, and state schools (including those using local authority banking)
  • The beneficiaries (or a significant majority of them) must be in Devon, Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly) or Somerset TA postcodes only; Bath and Bristol are excluded
  • Devon applications, especially East Devon, are prioritised, and smaller local organisations are preferred; regional or national organisations may apply if they show the beneficiaries are in the area
  • One application per organisation per financial year (1 April to 31 March); if you received a grant or were rejected this financial year, wait until after 1 April
  • Any monitoring report due from a previous grant must be submitted before reapplying
  • Individuals cannot apply

What it funds

Projects in three main categories, considered in this order of priority:

  • Animals & Environment: animal welfare (wild, livestock or domestic) and protecting or improving the natural environment in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset
  • Young People (up to 25): mental health and learning difficulties, physical health and disability, sport, education and training (including state schools and PTAs), community and activities, social welfare
  • Adults (25+): mental health and learning difficulties, physical health and disability, sport, education and training, community and activities (including village halls and projects for older people), social welfare, end of life (hospices)
  • Specific projects, building or refurbishment work (capital), and equipment purchases are preferred
  • Core or running costs, but not on an ongoing basis

Applications under Adults are less likely to succeed than those under Animals & Environment or Young People; Devon (and especially East Devon) projects are prioritised.

For large capital projects still some way from their fundraising target, trustees may offer a pledge payable when the remaining funding is in place.

Faith organisations and churches can apply for secular projects or community facilities open to everyone.

What it will not fund

  • Individuals
  • Projects outside Devon, Cornwall or Somerset (TA postcodes), including Bath and Bristol unless significant benefit to the eligible area is shown
  • Organisations or projects that use live animals for research or testing
  • Maintenance, upkeep or repair of religious buildings
  • Faith-based projects or projects with any religious elements
  • Festivals (not funded in the current financial year, subject to annual review)
  • Organisations with only a single beneficiary (very unlikely to be supported)
  • The same core/running costs in consecutive applications

How to apply

  1. Read the Applying for a Grant page, the guidance notes, the funding categories guidance and the AI guidelines for applicants
  2. Complete the online application form on the Apply for Funding page, choosing a main category and sub-category, and agree to the Terms and Conditions of Grant
  3. Upload accounts, quotes or a budget, a covering letter and proof of bank details
  4. Submit by midday on the deadline for the meeting you want: 29 October 2026 (meeting 10 December 2026), 22 December 2026 (end January 2027), 25 February 2027 (end March 2027)
  5. You get an automatic confirmation, then an email naming your meeting and a 5-digit reference
  6. The Grants Sub-Committee meets every other month; you hear the outcome by email within a few days of the meeting

Deadlines are provisional and may change, and are strictly enforced; trustees may consider urgent late requests at their discretion. Incomplete applications are deferred to a later meeting.

Grants of £2,000 or more need a short online monitoring report within six months or before reapplying; successful applicants must confirm receipt of funds by email.

The form asks whether you used AI in making the application. Email is the only contact route (no office phone); do not post papers.

Have ready

  • Most recent accounts (registered charities need not upload if on the Charity Commission website; schools financially managed by the local authority or a multi academy trust need not provide them); if more than 9 months old, add draft or management accounts
  • Quotes or a budget for any equipment, capital items or project, with a breakdown of how the grant will be used
  • A covering letter on headed paper, if possible
  • Proof of bank details (paying-in slip, recent bank statement, cancelled cheque or online banking screenshot showing bank name, account name, sort code and account number)
