The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust

Dan Maskell Tennis Trust Group/Club/Project Grants

Grants of up to £1,600 per application from a UK tennis charity (charity no. 1133589) to groups, clubs and projects that help disabled people of any impairment, including physical, deaf, learning disability and visually impaired, to play tennis. The grants can help start a new disability tennis group or programme, or support an existing one, with coaching fees, court hire at external venues, equipment packages and grass-roots tennis wheelchairs. The trust also runs a separate scheme for individuals. All grants are paid as reimbursements, and trustees decide four times a year. The final 2026 round closes on Monday 26 October 2026.

Who can apply

  • Groups, clubs and projects running or starting tennis activity for disabled people (all disabilities, e.g. physical impairment, deaf, learning disability, visually impaired)
  • The criteria do not require any particular legal structure, registration or income level; the form asks for the group/club/project name, a contact and their role (e.g. coach or club manager), and the LTA county
  • The trust states that all applicants must be UK citizens and resident in the UK
  • Anyone who applied for the same purpose in the past 2 years must wait until 2 years have passed
  • Applicants are advised to consult the Lawn Tennis Association and/or their local County Tennis Association before applying
  • Individual disabled players can apply separately (up to £600) through a different form

What it funds

  • Support for groups, clubs or projects starting a disability tennis group or club programme, or needing help with an existing programme
  • Examples are help towards court hire (such as indoor provision, but only where an external venue is needed or there are special circumstances), coaching fees, and equipment
  • Groups can apply for a set equipment package, which the trust orders, pays for and delivers
  • It includes rackets, balls, mini nets and coaching aids such as cones and throw-down lines, and visually impaired groups can also apply for sound balls
  • Groups can also apply for one or more RMA Sport grass-roots tennis wheelchairs (junior or adult)
  • The group pays a contribution of about £300 per chair, including delivery, and the trust funds the rest
  • Applications must cost each item, for example the number of sessions and the cost per hour per court, or coaching hours and rates
  • Programmes should aim towards self-financing and sustainability

What it will not fund

  • Clothing
  • Individual transport costs
  • Electronic equipment
  • Publicity, promotions and advertising
  • General administration
  • Catering
  • Capital or building works
  • Court hire at a tennis club's own courts, except in special circumstances (clubs running a disability programme are expected not to charge for court hire)
  • A grant for the same purpose within 2 years of a previous application (2-year moratorium); a different purpose is allowed
  • Payment in advance (all grants are reimbursed after the activity has taken place)

How to apply

  1. Read the Grant Criteria & Application Notes
  2. Optionally consult the Lawn Tennis Association and/or your County Tennis Association first, as the trust advises
  3. Complete the online Group/Club/Project Grant Application Form (not the individual form) on the Apply for a Grant page, giving a cost breakdown for each item; you can save your progress and resume later
  4. Submit by the round closing date (Round 4 2026: Monday 26 October 2026); trustees meet on Tuesday 24 November 2026
  5. If successful, do not order wheelchairs until you receive the letter of offer. Carry out the activity, then claim reimbursement with receipts and a short report (template supplied)

Late applications roll over to the next trustees' meeting. The 2027 dates will be published in late November 2026, and the first 2027 round is likely to close at the end of January.

Wheelchair prices may rise during the year, which could increase the contribution required.

Have ready

  • Note: No supporting documents are listed for applying
  • A short report (template supplied) and receipts are required when claiming the reimbursement
