Surrey County Council
Your Councillor Community Fund
Grants from Surrey County Council for community organisations delivering projects that benefit residents in a County Councillor's division. Each County Councillor has £10,000 to allocate in 2026/27, and every application must be backed by a local County Councillor, who sends the applicant the link to the online form. Projects must support one or more of the council's four priority objectives: a sustainable economy, tackling health inequality, a greener future and empowering communities. Examples include sports equipment for local clubs, websites, transport for community outings, river testing and skills training for vulnerable groups.

Who can apply
- Community organisations and project groups whose project benefits residents in the division of the Surrey County Councillor who supports it
- The online form asks for the organisation's type and, where applicable, charity, company and VAT numbers; the terms refer to community groups, charitable clubs, membership organisations, statutory bodies and local authorities
- Applicants need a bank or building society account in the organisation's name
- Organisations associated with a registered political party cannot apply, and schools cannot get funding for core costs
- Organisations that have had Your Fund Surrey or YCCF funding in the last 3 years must show proof that the earlier project was completed before more funding can be approved
What it funds
Projects costing over £100 that support residents within the sponsoring County Councillor's division and contribute to one or more of Surrey County Council's four priority objectives, under its guiding principle 'No one left behind':
- Growing a sustainable economy so everyone can benefit
- Tackling health inequality
- Enabling a greener future
- Empowering communities
The council gives examples such as buying sports equipment for local clubs, creating websites to reach more residents, transport costs for community outings, environmental testing of local rivers, and skills training for vulnerable groups.
More than one County Councillor from the same district or borough can co-sponsor a project.
What it will not fund
- Political organisations and/or political activities, including organisations associated with a registered political party
- Teaching national curriculum subjects and/or learning-related activities covered by the annual School and Early Years Finance Regulations
- Core costs for schools
- Supporting contentious planning matters or disputes
- Activities causing reputational damage or conflicts of interest for the council, including campaigns against the council or its statutory partners
- Ongoing staffing costs
- Projects that contravene Surrey County Council's policies or priorities, including its net zero ambitions (e.g. non-electric vehicles or fossil-fuel based energy solutions)
- Organisations that would exceed £315,000 of public subsidy (Minimal Financial Assistance) over three financial years
How to apply
- Check that your project fits one or more of the four priority objectives
- Contact your local County Councillor(s) to discuss the project and whether they would like to support it
- If they support it, your County Councillor sends you a link to the online application form, with instructions
- Complete and submit the online form (the sample application form PDF shows the questions), by 29 January 2027
- Note the unique reference number you are given and quote it whenever you contact the team
- Submit supporting documents such as quotes, permissions and bank details so the application can be assessed quickly
- The Community Investment Team assesses the application with your County Councillor(s) and emails you the decision
- If funded, provide evidence of expenditure and project completion within 6 months
Councillors often get more requests than they can fund, but they may suggest other funding sources.
If a co-sponsoring County Councillor is from a different district or borough, a separate application is needed.
Help is available from the YCCF team at yccf@surreycc.gov.uk or 01737 737420.
Have ready
- Quotes for all planned expenditure (one quote per item if the total project value is below £25,000; three quotes if over £25,000; website links or screenshots are accepted)
- Written permission from the landowner to use the land or property
- Any additional permissions needed, such as planning permission, building control or Surrey Highways permission
- Bank statement showing the account holder name, sort code and account number
