Migrant Destitution Fund GM (hosted by Macc - Manchester Community Central)
Greater Manchester Migrant Destitution Fund
Small monthly cash grants for people in Greater Manchester who are destitute because of their immigration status, such as refused asylum seekers or people with no recourse to public funds. You can get up to £80 a month per adult and £50 for any child in the household, and you can reapply every month while you remain eligible. You cannot apply directly: a referral partner organisation completes the form with you, and the money is paid to you by that organisation. The grants programme reopened on 1 October 2026 after a pause, and the fund says it does not currently have the money to stay open all year round.

Who can apply
- Individuals living in Greater Manchester who are destitute because of their immigration status
- People with no leave to remain and no right to work or access benefits (including refused asylum seekers and people whose leave to remain has lapsed) are eligible if they are not receiving Home Office asylum support (section 98, 95 or 4) and are not receiving £80 a month or more from any other organisation
- People with leave to remain are eligible if they are unable to work (for example for health reasons or because of caring responsibilities), cannot access benefits because of a no recourse to public funds condition or Pre-Settled Status, are not on a work visa, and are not receiving £80 a month or more from another organisation
- Individuals cannot apply directly: they must be referred by one of the fund's 40+ referral partners across Greater Manchester (refugee, migrant and homelessness charities and grassroots community groups)
- Anyone without a referrer can email info@migrantdestitution.co.uk saying where in Greater Manchester they live, and the fund will signpost them to a suitable partner
- Frontline organisations supporting destitute people in Greater Manchester can ask to join the referral network by emailing migrantdestitutionfund@macc.org.uk
What it funds
Unconditional cash grants to people who are destitute because of their immigration status, which they can spend as they need:
- Up to £80 per month per adult
- Up to £50 per month for any child in the household
the fund does not ask how the money is spent; people report using it for transport to medical or legal appointments, food, keeping in touch with family and friends, and contributing to household expenses
What it will not fund
- People receiving Home Office asylum support (section 98, section 95 or section 4)
- People receiving financial support of £80 per month or more from any other organisation
- People with leave to remain who are on a work visa
- People with leave to remain who are able to work
- People living outside Greater Manchester
How to apply
- If you are already connected with one of the fund's referral partners, ask someone there to refer you; if not, email info@migrantdestitution.co.uk saying where in Greater Manchester you live and you will be signposted to a suitable partner
- The referral organisation completes the application form with you and sends it to Macc, which hosts the fund
- The application is anonymised and reviewed by a Macc worker and a panel of volunteers, who check eligibility
- Decisions are made twice a week, so you should hear within a week
- If approved, the money is paid to you directly by the referring organisation
you can reapply each month while you remain eligible, going through the form again with your referrer each time.
the programme reopened on 1 October 2026; the fund says it does not currently have the funding to stay open all year round, so it may pause again.
