The Mrs L D Rope Third Charitable Settlement (The Rope Trust)
The Rope Trust Organisational Grants
Grants to organisations from the Rope Trust, a Kesgrave-based charity whose main aim is to prevent or relieve poverty. Most organisational grants go to groups in Ipswich and south-east Suffolk. The registration form now accepts new organisations only from Suffolk. Organisations register once and are then sent a link to the full application form.

Who can apply
- Organisations and institutions working to prevent or relieve poverty, mainly in the trust's local area of Ipswich and south-east Suffolk
- The organisational grants page says a small number of applications from elsewhere in the UK can be considered, but the registration form says the trust does not accept new registrations from overseas organisations or those outside Suffolk
- So new applicants must in practice be in Suffolk
- Large national charities are not funded, and schools only within the primary beneficial area
- The trust publishes no organisation types or income limits
- Its separate grants to individuals are made only through referrals from front-line advice and social care agencies
What it funds
- Grants to organisations and institutions, mainly in Ipswich and south-east Suffolk, in line with the trust's primary objective of preventing or relieving poverty
- Grants are made at the discretion of the Trustees
What it will not fund
- New overseas projects (overseas grants now go only through UK charities the trust has supported for many years)
- Large national charities
- Buildings: capital grants for construction, purchase, maintenance or renovation in response to unsolicited applications
- Medical research/healthcare, other than hospices in the charity's beneficial area which are already supported
- Schools outside the charity's primary beneficial area
- Fees for private education
- Environmental charities and animal welfare
- Performing, literary or visual arts
- Large-scale 'matched' funding
- New registrations from overseas organisations or organisations outside Suffolk
How to apply
- Read the exclusions on the 'How to Apply – Organisational' page
- Register your organisation once using the Organisational Grant Application Registration form (organisation name, address, website and a contact's details)
- If your registration is accepted, you receive an email with a link to the full application form
- Complete the full application form; keep the link and use it for all future applications
You only need to register once. If your details change, email ropetrust@lucyhouse.org.uk to amend your registration; if you lose your link, ask for it to be resent rather than registering again
New registrations are not accepted from organisations outside Suffolk or overseas
