Who can apply

  • Both individuals and organisations, including those who may not have access to conventional grant funding schemes
  • Projects must relate to biodiversity and conservation in the New Forest National Park
  • No income limits or organisational requirements are published
  • Successful applicants must provide an end-of-year summary and are invited to present initial results at the annual New Forest Biodiversity Conference

What it funds

Projects that include some of:

  • Biodiversity survey, monitoring, research and recording
  • Conservation management actions to improve biodiversity in the New Forest National Park

Priority is given to projects addressing known evidence gaps on New Forest biodiversity and conservation with policy-relevant outcomes; innovative techniques/technologies and 'high-risk high reward' pilot projects with potential for wider impact are encouraged, and applications that build on other funding or volunteer time are particularly welcomed.

The Forum's Strategic Priorities page lists the evidence gaps it considers most important (e.g. grazing herbivore impacts, habitat management, recreational impacts, under-recorded species groups such as bats, fungi and aquatic invertebrates).

How to apply

  1. Optionally discuss your proposal informally with the Forum Chair, Prof Russell Wynn (russ@wildnewforest.org.uk, 07500 990808), before applying
  2. Write an application of no more than two sides of A4 covering e.g. project rationale, methods, outputs, partners, co-funding, policy implications and required resources
  3. Email the application to russ@wildnewforest.org.uk
  4. The Forum Chair and Sponsors assess it, normally within a few days; Steering Group members may be consulted for technical or site-specific expertise
  5. If funded, provide an end-of-year summary and present initial results at the annual New Forest Biodiversity Conference

Applications can be received at any time between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2027, the scheme's initial operating period
