North Somerset Community Transport Grant

Small grants of £20 to £500 from Quartet Community Foundation, open all year, for volunteer-run community transport schemes serving North Somerset residents with limited mobility: section 19/22 permit minibus groups and volunteer car schemes. It covers unexpected costs over and above normal running costs, such as rising insurance premiums, unplanned vehicle or building maintenance, driver training and DBS checks, as well as new community initiatives. Who can apply

  • Local transport schemes providing accessible, efficient and affordable transport to North Somerset residents with limited mobility, typically run by local volunteers: community transport groups operating with a section 19 or section 22 permit and fully accessible minibuses (shopping trips, dial-a-ride, group hire, day trips), and car schemes where volunteer drivers use their own vehicles, mainly for medical appointments
  • Quartet's general rules apply: not-for-profit with charitable aims (need not be a registered charity); a written constitution; at least three unpaid members of the management committee, the majority unrelated; up-to-date accounts or financial records; a bank account in the organisation's name with at least two signatories (a small group without an account can have another charitable organisation hold the funds, with written authorisation); and a safeguarding policy if working with children or vulnerable adults

What it funds

  • Blue Badge application charges

Quartet may not fund the whole cost.

What it will not fund

  • Retrospective funding for costs already incurred
  • Privately owned, profit-distributing companies or partnerships
  • Services the government is statutorily obliged to provide
  • Political party activities
  • Activities promoting religious conversion
