The Oakley Charitable Trust

The Oakley Charitable Trust grants

The Oakley Charitable Trust (registered charity 233041), based in Birmingham, gives grants usually of £1,000-£3,000 (occasionally more) to UK registered charities, currently across the arts, heritage, welfare and education. Most of its roughly £75,000 a year goes to a set of core charities, leaving a small surplus open to applications. Priority goes to West Midlands charities, and applications from outside the area are unlikely to succeed without a prior relationship, other than national charities for work in the West Midlands.

What it funds

  • Restricted grants towards a project or costs set out in the application, currently spread across the arts, heritage, welfare and education sectors
  • Past grant-giving does not indicate future funding

What it will not fund

  • Individuals
  • Overseas charities
  • Non-registered charities
  • Retrospective grants

How to apply

  1. Check you are eligible against the grant-making policy
  2. Write an application: an introduction to your charity and its work (no more than 2 sides of A4) and your funding request, including the amount and any particular project (up to 2 further sides of A4)
  3. Post it to Trust Administrator - The Oakley Charitable Trust, Office 25 Quadrant Court, 48 Calthorpe Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 1TH
  4. Trustees meet about three times a year; successful applicants receive a cheque by post in the weeks after the meeting

Applications cannot be accepted by email, and the trust cannot deal with telephone or email enquiries.

Unsuccessful applicants are not notified.

Give a website address for your report and accounts and project plans rather than enclosing lots of printed material; avoid glossy brochures and reply-paid envelopes.

Successful charities must acknowledge the grant in writing on headed paper, confirm it will be spent only on the approved purpose, and refund any surplus.
