The Ockash Trust

Ockash Trust Group Grant

Small grants from a volunteer-run parish charity (registered charity 1098200) for projects that benefit children and young people aged 18 and under in the Parish of Ockbrook and Borrowash, Derbyshire. Local children's groups apply on a two-page Group Application Form with an independent referee, then have an informal face-to-face discussion with trustees before a decision. The Trust was set up with money left over from the Ockash Festival 2000 and has given more than £20,000 in total to local children and young people. Past group recipients include Ashbrook Infants School, Borrowash Library, Ockbrook Cricket, the Scouts, the Brownies and the WOW Youth Group.

Who can apply

  • Children's groups (and individuals) that live within the Parish boundaries of Ockbrook and Borrowash in Erewash, Derbyshire, where the money directly benefits children aged 18 or under
  • The funder does not state which legal forms are accepted and only says 'groups'
  • Past recipients include an infant school, the local library, a cricket club, Scouts, Brownies and a youth group, so small voluntary groups appear to be eligible
  • There are no income limits or track-record requirements
  • The applicant must name an independent referee who is not a family member, must attend an informal face-to-face discussion with more than one trustee, and must agree to support future Ockash Trust events

What it funds

  • Projects and items that directly benefit individual children or children's groups (up to age 18) in the Parish of Ockbrook and Borrowash
  • The Trust aims to give local young people opportunities through scholarships, financial help with a project, specialist care or some other form of aid
  • Groups state what the project is, how many people will benefit, the age range of the group, what the grant will be used for, the total project cost and the amount requested
  • The trustees use 'common sense' to decide whether a request is an appropriate use of money
  • Urgent needs can be handled at an extraordinary meeting

What it will not fund

  • Groups or individuals outside the Parish boundaries of Ockbrook and Borrowash
  • Beneficiaries over 18
  • School or individual children's visits/trips, unless the aim is at least partly to benefit others (not normally funded)
  • Anything the trustees judge an inappropriate use of the money

Grants depend on the Trust's current funds; if funds fall below £750, grants may be reduced pro rata. Where appropriate, applicants are expected to be fundraising themselves as well

How to apply

  1. Read the Application Terms & Conditions (https://ockash.org.uk/application-terms-conditions/)
  2. Download and complete the Group Application Form (https://ockash.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Group_Application.pdf): group name, applicant contact details, the project, number of beneficiaries, age range, what the grant will be used for, total project cost and amount requested
  3. Have an independent referee (not a family member) who knows the applicant and the project complete and sign the referee section
  4. Sign the declaration agreeing to the terms and conditions and to support future Ockash events
  5. Return the form to Ockash Trust, c/o Borrowash Post Office, 31 Nottingham Road, Derby DE72 3FL (or contact ockash.trust@gmail.com)
  6. The committee reads the application by email; references are obtained, and you are invited to an informal face-to-face discussion with trustees
  7. The findings are discussed at the next Trust meeting, all committee members must agree (otherwise a majority vote at the following meeting), and you are told the outcome as soon as possible; grants are paid soon afterwards
