The Rushworth Trust (administered by Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services, LCVS)

The Rushworth Trust

The Rushworth Trust gives modest grants to further musical performance and education within 60 miles of Liverpool Town Hall. Not-for-profit organisations can normally get up to £1,000 and individuals up to £500. It also covers groups based within the radius whose musical activity takes place elsewhere. Trustees meet four times a year (March, June, September, December) and consider applications received by the first day of that month. LCVS administers the trust, which incorporates the Thew Bequest, the A K Holland Award (singing and choirs) and the Liverpool Youth Music Committee funds.

Who can apply

  • Not-for-profit organisations (and individuals) supporting musical performance or education taking place within a radius of 60 miles of Liverpool Town Hall, or with a permanent home or base within that radius (the activity itself can then be anywhere)
  • Registered charity status is asked for but not required
  • The organisation form asks for annual income, the organisation's musical activities, and letters of support from people outside the organisation
  • No income limit is published

What it funds

Musical performance or education. Examples in the guidance:

  • Choirs and choral singers (training, concerts, special trips or visits)
  • Other special needs associated with musical events and organisations whose aims are charitable
  • Composers (publication, copying of material or performance)
  • Young conductors and young performers (study, tuition, specialised training, purchase of instruments)
  • Coaching of student singers and instrumentalists for a scholarship

Trustees will consider other proposals within the trust's general purposes.

The application form covers instrument or equipment purchases and ongoing projects.

The trust's constituent funds favour music in Liverpool and young musicians (Thew Bequest), singing and choirs (A K Holland Award), and young people and youth organisations in music and speech (LYMC).

Applicants do not choose a fund; trustees allocate.

What it will not fund

  • Course fees or maintenance costs of higher education

Awards are not usually repeated for a second or further year. Grants do not normally exceed £1,000 for organisations or £500 for individuals

  3. Send the form with the required documents to LCVS Grants (grants@lcvs.org.uk, or 151 Dale Street, Liverpool L2 2AH) on or before the first day of March, June, September or December
  4. Trustees consider applications that month and tell applicants the outcome by the last day of the same month

Individuals use a separate form (up to £500)
