Fylde Council

Fylde Community Projects Fund

Fylde Council's Community Projects Fund gives grants to local voluntary, community and self-help groups based in Fylde, or working exclusively with Fylde residents, for projects meeting the council's corporate plan objectives. There are two strands: non-match-funded grants of up to £300 on a short form, and grants of £300-£2,000 that should be match funded (in-kind contributions considered). Applications are taken at any time and decided by a multi-agency panel including the police, Lancashire County Council and Active Lancashire, typically within about a month.

Who can apply

  • Fylde locally managed voluntary, community or self-help groups with charitable objectives, based in Fylde Borough or working exclusively with people who live in Fylde, that can identify a clear need for the project
  • Groups need a constitution or a simple set of rules and annual accounts (basic or draft is fine; a recent bank statement for groups under 3 months old)
  • Groups linked to a national organisation must have their own rules/constitution, bank account, annual accounts and management committee
  • Groups without a bank account can name an organisation to receive a grant up to £300 on their behalf
  • Town and parish councils, statutory bodies and individuals cannot apply

What it funds

Projects that meet one or more of the Council's Corporate Plan objectives:

  • Clean & Green Environment
  • A Great Place to Visit
  • Vibrant & Healthy Economy
  • Safe & Caring Community

Examples: projects that encourage young people to reach their potential, enhance skill levels in the community attractive to future employers, bring young and older community members together, enhance the cultural heritage of Fylde, give learners better access to learning opportunities, or enhance the natural environment such as park enhancements.

New innovative projects or new elements of existing projects can be considered.

Projects should demonstrate local support, reflect diverse community needs, help regeneration, give value for money and show capability to manage the project.

What it will not fund

  • Non-Fylde based projects
  • Projects lasting more than 6 months from receipt of the grant
  • Activities which have already taken place before a grant is offered
  • Individuals
  • Political or religious activities
  • Applications from Town or Parish Councils
  • Projects which result in personal gain (applicants must have charitable objectives)
  • Statutory organisations or work which is their responsibility
  • Political bodies
  • Debts and other liabilities
  • Travel or trips
  • Social events (other than where there are clearly defined educational benefits)
  • Maintenance of motor vehicles
  • Ongoing revenue costs, including salaries and hire of venues or equipment
  • Animal welfare
  • More than one application per year per community group or project

How to apply

  1. Download the application form for the right strand from the council's page: £1-£300 (Discretionary Fund) or £300-£2,000
  2. Complete the form, including costs breakdown, how need was assessed and (for £300-£2,000) where match funding is coming from, signed by two members of your group
  3. Email it with supporting documents to joanne.collins@fylde.gov.uk (or post to Jo Collins, Fylde Council Community Projects Fund, Town Hall, St Annes FY8 1LW)
  4. The panel considers the application electronically and may contact you with questions
  5. If awarded, provide progress information and proof of expenditure

There are no closing dates; applications are dealt with as received, and the process takes about one month, so plan ahead.

Applications are only complete when all supporting documents are included; any change to costs must be agreed by the panel before spending.

Have ready

  • Completed application form signed by two members of the group
  • Signed copy of the constitution or a simple set of rules (£300-£2,000 strand)
  • Annual accounts for the last 12 months, even basic or draft (£300-£2,000 strand)
  • Recent group bank statement for groups under 3 months old
  • Bank details for the group, or for the organisation receiving the grant on its behalf

Groups without accounts must provide a summary of expenditure at project completion.
