Herefordshire Community Foundation
HCF Emergency Relief Fund
The HCF Emergency Relief Fund gives immediate financial help after flooding or other natural disasters in Herefordshire. Grants of £500 are available for projects that provide relief support to affected communities, and £200 grants go directly to affected households. Applications can be made all year, whenever relief is needed, but must be made within four weeks of the incident.

Who can apply

- Organisations apply through HCF's main application form
- HCF's general rules for organisations: a non-registered charity, charity, CIC, social enterprise or faith group with charitable or social-benefit aims (faith groups only for activity that benefits the wider community, not religious promotion); a written constitution or set of rules; at least three unrelated board members; recent annual accounts; a bank account in the organisation's name with at least two unrelated signatories; and safeguarding and equal opportunities policies where relevant
- Groups with under one year of records can apply for up to £1,000 using financial forecasts
- National charities need a significant local presence that benefits Herefordshire residents
- Individuals and families can apply for their own £200 household grant through a separate form, or professionals can apply on their behalf
What it funds
- Projects providing relief support for communities affected by flooding or other natural disasters (grants of £500), for example work run by flood or emergency-relief groups and neighbourhood support groups
- The fund's priority is urgent needs such as temporary accommodation, and items residents need to stay in their homes, such as dehumidifiers and replacements for damaged food, clothing or bedding
- Separately, households can receive £200 each
What it will not fund
- Applications made more than four weeks after the incident (these may be rejected)
- Medical research, political groups or animal welfare (HCF general exclusions)
- Promotion of religion or general appeals (HCF general exclusions)
- Direct replacement of statutory funding (HCF general exclusion)
- Retrospective or already-completed activities (HCF general exclusion)
- Fundraising events (HCF general exclusion)
The general exclusions come from HCF's 'Who can apply' page, which covers its main grants. The Emergency Relief Fund page does not list its own exclusions.
