Huntingdon Freemen's Trust
Huntingdon Freemen's Trust grants
Huntingdon Freemen's Trust gives grants to individuals, students, schools, groups and organisations based in or serving the area covered by Huntingdon Town Council (Huntingdon Town, Oxmoor, Hartford, Sapley, Stukeley Meadows and Hinchingbrooke Park). For local groups it funds equipment, project costs, training, competitions, trips and recreational activities in sports, hobbies and the arts, and it is currently prioritising early years and families, and mental health and wellbeing. Trustees meet monthly except August; requests over £10,000 are heard only in January and July.

- Groups based outside the area (for example regional or national organisations) must show evidence that their services benefit Huntingdon people, and for any group a large number of its clients or members must live in the area
- Registered charities and CICs are eligible; companies registered with Companies House are not (except CICs)
- One application per person or organisation every 12 months
- Individuals usually need to have lived in the area for at least 12 months and are means tested
What it funds
- For groups and organisations: purchase of equipment, project costs, training and competitions for groups involved in sports, hobbies and the arts, plus trips, organised outings and recreational activities; schools can get help with school equipment and educational activities
- The Trust is actively supporting applications for early years and families and for mental health and wellbeing
- Large grants (£10,000 or more) are assessed on merit, outcomes, the difference made and long-term sustainability; they may cover staffing costs and pilot or start-up projects that are an integral part of a strong project, are normally finite and not routinely repeated
- For individuals: means-tested help with essential household items, medical and mobility equipment and adaptations, and up to £1,200 a year towards accommodation costs for students at university or college
- Grants to groups are proportional to the number of Huntingdon residents benefiting
What it will not fund
- Services that the Government or local councils are supposed to provide (statutory responsibilities such as educational or medical), though the Trust can supplement them
- Companies registered with Companies House, except CICs
- A second award within 12 months of a previous award, including awards split over multiple years
- Rent, council tax, debts, fines or funerals (individuals)
- Floor coverings
- Master's degree or postgraduate studies (students)
