Jack Petchey Foundation

Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme

The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme lets state secondary schools, colleges, youth clubs and not-for-profit youth organisations in London and Essex recognise outstanding young people aged 11-25, with a package of grants worth up to £6,400 a year. Each award winner, chosen with the involvement of their peers, gets a £300 grant to spend for the benefit of their school or organisation. Organisations on the scheme can also apply for further small grants (Leader Award, Environmental Award and Educational Visits grants). Around 1,500 organisations run the scheme; joining involves an eligibility check, application, training webinar and assessment visit.

What it funds

  • Organisations join a peer-recognition scheme: they make a set number of Achievement Awards a year (Gold 9, Silver 6, Bronze 3) to young people aged 11-25 chosen with young people's involvement
  • Each winner chooses how a £300 grant is spent to benefit their school or organisation, and receives a certificate, pin badge, booklet and a medallion at a Foundation presentation event
  • Organisations on the scheme can apply for a package of other small grants through the year:
  • Leader Award
  • Leader Award Grant
  • Environmental Award Grant
  • Educational Visits and Learning Experiences

Up to £6,400 a year in total.

The Foundation also provides the scheme materials and resources.

What it will not fund

  • Profit-making companies
  • Private schools
  • Statutory bodies other than state secondary schools/colleges and local authority youth clubs
  • Groups where the sole purpose of the youth work is to promote or teach a political or religious belief
  • Personal use of award grants
  • General running or core costs

Award grants are restricted funds and unspent grants must be returned
