GrantScape (SUEZ Communities Fund, funded by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK)
SUEZ Communities Fund – England
Landfill Communities Fund grants of £3,000 to £50,000, administered by GrantScape with money from SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, for capital improvements to public amenities in England: village halls, community centres, playgrounds, sports facilities, nature reserves, country parks, cycle paths and historic buildings. Projects must sit within two miles of a qualifying SUEZ waste-processing site, which you check with GrantScape's postcode checker. There are two strands: Smaller Projects (up to £20,000, total cost under £40,000) and the Primary Fund (up to £50,000, total cost under £250,000). All consents and all other funding must already be secured, and a Contributing Third Party donation of about 11.5% of the grant has to be found before any money is paid.

- Applicants must name a Contributing Third Party donor who is willing to pay roughly £11.50 for every £100 of grant to SUEZ if the application succeeds

What it funds
- Capital projects that provide, improve or maintain a public amenity, including village halls, nature reserves, community centres, public playgrounds, cycle paths, sports facilities and country parks
- Historic buildings and sites also qualify: religious buildings must be Grade I listed, and other historic buildings must be Grade I, II* or II listed or have another significant heritage designation
- The project must be open to the general public as ENTRUST defines it, which means at least 4 evenings a week, or 2 days a week, or 104 days a year
- Smaller Projects: up to £20,000 where the total project cost is under £40,000; work must start within 3 months and finish within 12 months
- Primary Fund: up to £50,000 where the total project cost is under £250,000; work must start within 6 months and finish within 12 months
- GrantScape says Smaller Projects applications 'generally have a higher success rate'
- Match funding is not required, but priority may go to groups that have fundraised towards the project
- Assessment looks at community support and involvement, local benefit and public enjoyment, ability to deliver, sustainability and legacy, and value for money
What it will not fund
- Community shops
- Membership-based sports clubs and facilities (e.g. bowls and golf clubs) unless membership is open to the general public without undue restriction

How to apply
- Check your project postcode with GrantScape's SUEZ Communities Fund postcode checker to confirm it is within an active funding zone
- Read the fund's eligibility criteria, the Application Questions and Guidance Notes, and the Contributing Third Party (CTP) guidance
- Register on GrantScape's online application system (SmartSimple)
- Complete the online application form, naming your CTP donor and uploading your signed constitution
- Submit the form before the round's closing date (18 November 2026, midnight, decision early February 2027; next is 10 February 2027, decision end of April 2027); you will get an automatic email confirmation with a PDF copy
- If awarded, send the required comparable quotes, have your CTP donor complete GrantScape's CTP form and make the donation to SUEZ, and sign the grant contract before work starts
Only online applications are accepted; groups that cannot apply online because of communication needs should contact GrantScape for alternative arrangements
Applications received after a closing date roll over to the next funding round
Allow at least one month between the decision date and your project start date
Have ready
- Signed copy of your current constitution, set of rules or governing document (not required from local authorities or town and parish councils; churches can provide a mission statement)
GrantScape asks applicants not to upload anything other than the constitution at application stage. If a grant is awarded, it asks for 3 comparable quotes for capital items or contractor works over £5,000 (2 for items over £1,000) and a CTP form completed by your donor
