Who can apply

  • UK registered charities, or Community Interest Companies that can provide evidence of their charitable purpose
  • The trustees' discretion is wide, but in practice they have historically supported projects in or benefiting the people of Nottinghamshire or Norfolk, so organisations elsewhere are unlikely to succeed unless their work benefits those counties
  • Individuals cannot apply
  • The Trust is administered together with the Lady Hind Trust - apply to only one of them

What it funds

Charitable projects and activities, historically in or benefiting the people of Nottinghamshire or Norfolk, in these areas:

  • Community healthcare services (home care, after care, people with long-term medical conditions, continuing care of disabled people)
  • Health education and prevention, including awareness of specific diseases and projects advancing health research
  • Lifelong learning (supplementary schools, literacy and numeracy, community education, vocational/restart education for unemployed people, alternative education for excluded pupils)
  • Community development helping groups respond to local problems and needs
  • Personal social services helping individuals or families overcome social deprivation (e.g. homeless or disabled people and their carers, single-parent, childcare and family support groups)
  • Social preventive schemes (preventing crime, 'dropping out' and delinquency, social care outreach, health and safety awareness)
  • Community social activities that reduce isolation and loneliness for vulnerable people
  • Environmental work to protect nature, combat climate change and promote sustainability
  • Church heritage, including keeping church buildings open and in use
  • Supporting artists, arts education and access to the arts

Grants are at the trustees' wide discretion and the annual total depends on investment income.

What it will not fund

  • New applications from individuals
  • Organisations that are not UK registered charities or Community Interest Companies able to evidence their charitable purpose
  • Applying to both this Trust and the connected Lady Hind Trust (apply to one only)
