Marsh Charitable Trust

Marsh Charitable Trust Grants Programme

Small unrestricted core-funding grants of £300 to £2,000 for UK registered charities, with new grantees receiving amounts at the lower end. The Trust aims to build long-term relationships, renewing support each year subject to review, and makes many modest grants (around 500 charities a year) across social welfare, arts and heritage, literature, education and training, and environmental and animal welfare. There is no application form or deadline: send a short cover letter and your latest annual report and accounts by post.

Who can apply

  • Charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (not CICs)
  • They must have been established for more than one financial year and be able to provide a full set of their most recent Annual Report and Accounts, or equivalent financial information if annual income is under £25,000
  • Applications are judged on the charity's financial position, performance against its aims and the ratio of voluntary income to fundraising costs

What it funds

  • Unrestricted, long-term core funding to help small charities pay running costs such as volunteer expenses, training days, equipment maintenance and other core outgoings
  • Fields supported include social welfare (the largest share), literature, arts and heritage, environmental causes and animal welfare, and education and training; a small number of grants go to overseas charities
  • Grants range from £300 to £2,000, with successful new applicants at the lower end, and support can continue year on year subject to an annual review

What it will not fund

  • Hospices or hospitals
  • Schools and universities
  • Individuals
  • Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Charities established for less than one financial year

How to apply

  2. Enclose a full set of your most recent Annual Report and Accounts
  3. Post the application to the Marsh Charitable Trust, 4 Matthew Parker Street, London, SW1H 9NP
  4. A monthly grants committee considers new appeals and renewals; every applicant receives a response

There is no application form and no deadline - apply at any time.
