The Oakland Foundation
Oakland Foundation grants
The Oakland Foundation, a Redditch-based charity sponsored by Oakland International, gives grants to established groups and organisations supporting disadvantaged children under 16 and their families in England and Wales. It funds projects in education, health and nutrition, and sport, and prioritises areas where Oakland International is part of the community (Redditch, Bardon, Corby, Knottingley and Skelmersdale). It acts as a seed funder for launching, growing or strengthening projects and does not fund staff wages, rent or utilities. Applications are made online at any time and decided at regular trustee meetings.

- Larger grant applicants are advised to have other funding sources in place
- Individuals are not funded directly
What it funds
Projects for disadvantaged children under 16 and their families under three themes:
- Education (helping children access educational projects whatever their background)
- Health and nutrition (learning and opportunities around healthy food and lifestyle choices)
- Sport (access to sport and activities irrespective of social background or physical ability)
The Foundation acts as a seed funder giving developmental support to help launch, grow or strengthen projects, or for one-off projects; requests can be for financial support or equipment.
Capital funding is considered only in exceptional circumstances, usually as part of a partnership funding agreement - discuss with Mark Williams first.
What it will not fund
- Overhead or operating costs, such as wages for contracted staff, lease or rental payments and utility bills
- Staffing resources
- Individuals (applications must come from an established group or organisation)
- Projects delivered outside England and Wales
- Capital funding, except in exceptional circumstances (usually as part of a partnership funding agreement)
- Additional funding for overspends without a new application
- Resubmitted applications, unless Trustees specifically request them
- Guaranteed future or repeat funding
