Who can apply

  • Constituted voluntary or community organisations; constituted groups or clubs, including constituted sports clubs; registered charities including CIOs; not-for-profit companies including CICs that are not limited by shares and where most directors are unpaid; and schools, only for improving sporting facilities or equipment with wider community benefit
  • Applicants should be based and working in North Somerset and all beneficiaries must be in North Somerset; organisations based outside North Somerset must evidence that no North Somerset group provides the same service
  • There is no size limit, but organisations with income under £1 million are prioritised, particularly under £0.5 million, and those holding more than eight months' annual expenditure in unrestricted reserves are a lower priority and must explain why reserves cannot cover the cost
  • Groups can apply once a year, provided full and final monitoring has been received for any previous NSCP grant
  • A group without its own bank account can use another eligible charitable organisation's account under an agreement, or another charitable organisation can apply on its behalf

What it funds

New or existing activity supporting the health or wellbeing of disadvantaged North Somerset residents. Any reasonable costs of delivering health and wellbeing projects, including core or running costs, project and activity costs, and capital costs (e.g. equipment including sports equipment, refurbishment/building costs). Priorities:

  • Helping residents of any age improve physical or mental health and wellbeing, including early intervention and prevention
  • Helping North Somerset health and wellbeing organisations plan for the future and become sustainable, including core costs
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives including sports facilities for North Somerset schools, where there is wider community impact
  • Supporting older people affected by isolation and loneliness, including in rural communities

Quartet aims to fully fund requests but may occasionally give partial funding.

What it will not fund

  • Costs incurred before a grant can be awarded
  • Individuals
  • Activities or services that government and other public bodies have a statutory responsibility to provide
  • Groups, organisations or activities supporting a political party
  • Activities intended to influence people's religious choices
  • Activities primarily supporting animal welfare
  • Medical research, equipment or treatment
  • Activities that raise funds for other organisations
  • Schools where there is no wider community benefit
  • Large appeals
