Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Renters and Flat Owners
A UK government grant paying 75% of the cost of buying and installing an electric vehicle chargepoint socket at home, up to £500, for people who rent the home they live in or own and live in a flat. You need your own private off-street parking space and an eligible electric vehicle, and the work must be done by an OZEV-authorised installer, who claims the grant and deducts it from your invoice. Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027, the final year of OZEV's home chargepoint grants.

- Any permissions needed from a landlord, freeholder or managing agent must be obtained before applying
- This is a grant for individuals; organisations cannot apply (landlords, including charities that let housing, use the separate residential landlord chargepoint grant)
What it funds
- 75% of the cost of buying and installing an eligible residential electric vehicle chargepoint socket, up to a maximum of £500
You are only eligible for one grant. The chargepoint model must be on OZEV's eligible list and the installer OZEV-authorised.
What it will not fund
- Chargepoints already installed (the chargepoint must not be installed before OZEV confirms you are eligible)
- People who have already claimed this grant or its predecessors, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) or the Domestic Recharge Scheme
- People who are moving house or planning to move
- Owner-occupiers of a house (unless it is converted into flats and you live in one of the flats)
- Lodgers and others renting where the landlord or homeowner lives
- Installations that are a mandatory requirement, e.g. under Part S Building Regulations (England, from 15 June 2022), the Building (Scotland) Regulations (from 5 June 2023) or a planning condition, including new builds
- Properties that are unoccupied or still being built
- Homes without private, off-street parking
- Properties in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
How to apply
- Check your vehicle is on OZEV's approved list and the chargepoint is on the eligible model list
- Get any third-party permissions needed for the installation (landlord, freeholder or managing agent)
- Contact an OZEV-authorised installer to get a quote for the work
- Select 'Start new application' on the Find a Grant page, create an account and submit details of your property and vehicle with the supporting documents
- If eligible, OZEV emails you and your installer a letter with the grant terms and instructions for starting installation
- Your installer installs the chargepoint, then claims the grant on your behalf with photographs and an invoice showing the grant deducted; OZEV pays the installer
OZEV may audit your application or installation, including before approval, and may cancel the application if you do not cooperate.
Have ready
- Dated quote from an OZEV-authorised installer
- Utility bill less than 3 months old showing your name and the address where the chargepoint will be installed
- Signed and dated tenancy agreement (if renting)
- Letter from your housing provider confirming you pay rent (shared ownership without a tenancy agreement)
