Office for Zero Emission Vehicles
Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for Households with On-Street Parking
A UK government grant for electric vehicle drivers without a driveway: it pays 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home chargepoint socket, up to £500, when you also install a permanent cross-pavement charging solution (such as a cable channel) to reach your car parked on the street. It is for individuals who own or rent the home they live in, and you need your local highways authority's consent for the cross-pavement solution before applying. The installer claims the grant and deducts it from your invoice. Funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027, the final year of OZEV's home chargepoint grants.

Who can apply
- Individual electric vehicle drivers who own or rent a residential (domestic) property they live in, in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
- You must: not have private and exclusive access to off-street parking (driveway, garage or residential car park); have adequate on-street parking generally available outside or near your home; have your local highways authority's consent for the cross-pavement charging solution and declare you will obtain any planning permission needed; have any third-party permissions (landlord, freeholder, managing agent, or owner of a private road) before applying; and own or be responsible for a vehicle on OZEV's approved list (registered keeper, assigned a company car, leasing, named by your employer as primary user, or with one on order)
- The grant does not give you a reserved parking space
- Not all local authorities currently approve cross-pavement solutions, so check your council's policy first
- This is a grant for individuals; organisations cannot apply (charities and other organisations should look at the Workplace Charging Scheme or the residential landlord chargepoint grant)
What it funds
- 75% of the cost to buy and install an eligible residential chargepoint socket, up to a maximum of £500, at a residential property when also installing a cross-pavement charging solution (e.g. a cable channel)
One socket per resident. The cross-pavement solution must be permanent; temporary solutions such as cable covers or mats placed on top of a cable do not qualify.
What it will not fund
- Chargepoints already installed (the grant cannot be backdated; do not install before OZEV confirms you are eligible)
- Homes with private and exclusive access to off-street parking such as a driveway, garage or residential car park
- Installations without a cross-pavement charging solution, or with only a temporary one such as cable covers or mats
- Residences that have already claimed under the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for renters or flat owners, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) or the Domestic Recharge Scheme
- People who are moving house or planning to move
- Replacing a current chargepoint, even if a new car is not compatible with it
- Moving an existing chargepoint to a new property
- Installations that were a mandatory requirement
- Non-domestic properties
- Properties in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
- Chargepoints or installers that are not OZEV-approved
How to apply
- Where necessary, get permissions from third parties for the chargepoint and cross-pavement solution (e.g. landlord, freeholder, managing agent or owner of a private road)
- Contact an OZEV-approved installer to get a quote for the chargepoint installation
- Contact your local highways authority to get consent for the cross-pavement solution
- Select 'Start new application' on the Find a Grant page, create a Find and Apply for a Grant account if needed, and apply with evidence including the highways authority consent and a declaration that you will obtain any planning permission
- If eligible, OZEV emails you a letter confirming the terms and conditions and instructions for starting installation
- Once the cross-pavement solution and chargepoint are installed, your installer claims the grant on your behalf (with photographs and an invoice showing the grant deducted) and OZEV pays the installer
OZEV may audit applications and installations, including site visits, and can withhold or reclaim the grant if you do not cooperate.
Have ready
- Evidence of your local highways authority's consent for the cross-pavement charging solution
- Declaration that you will obtain any planning permissions your local planning authority requires
- Quote from an OZEV-approved installer
- Proof that you own, lease or are responsible for an eligible electric vehicle (shown to your installer)
Third-party permissions (landlord, freeholder, managing agent) must be in place before you apply.
