Who can apply

  • Individuals or households living within the Trust's area of benefit of Kensington and Chelsea where someone is sick, convalescent, disabled or infirm, there is a clear and evidenced need for financial help, the item requested is appropriate to their circumstances, and other appropriate sources of help have been considered
  • Applications may be submitted by organisations or professionals on behalf of an individual; the online form requires the referrer's name, position, organisation, telephone and email, so in practice applications come through a referrer

What it funds

Grants towards a maximum of two practical items or services which help to improve an individual's health, wellbeing, independence or living conditions. Examples include:

  • Essential household appliances, such as cookers, washing machines, microwaves and refrigerators
  • Essential furniture, including beds, mattresses and seating
  • Bedding and essential clothing
  • Flooring where there is a clear health or welfare benefit
  • Essential electrical items, such as a laptop or television, where there is a particular need
  • Household equipment, such as vacuum cleaners
  • Delivery, removal, installation or connection costs associated with an approved item
  • Other practical items or services which the Trustees consider appropriate and consistent with the Trust's charitable objectives

The application form says a maximum of £750 can be awarded for flooring.

What it will not fund

  • General living expenses or ongoing household bills
  • Rent, mortgage payments or council tax
  • Debts or arrears
  • Items or services that should reasonably be provided by statutory services or another organisation
  • Costs that have already been incurred, unless the Trustees agree otherwise
  • Luxury or non-essential items
  • Ongoing costs which the applicant would be unable to meet after the grant has been awarded
  • Chest of drawers or wardrobes
  • Ovens

How to apply

  1. A referring organisation or professional completes the Trust's online 'Application for Assistance' form (Cognito Forms), linked from the Trust's page
  2. Give the applicant's details, years lived in Kensington and Chelsea, weekly income and expenditure, the items requested (maximum two), other help sought, and a case summary covering social situation, medical diagnosis and its effect on daily living, caring duties, reasons for any debt and household members
  3. The Trustees consider the application and may ask for further information, attach conditions, or award a different amount or purpose
  4. If approved, payment may go to the applicant, a supplier or another organisation

Do not buy anything before the Trustees' decision is confirmed.

For a bed, say single or double; for a washing machine, say whether a heated airer is also wanted.

Have ready

  • Quotation or other evidence of the cost of the item or service, where appropriate
  • Quote for flooring (must be uploaded if flooring is requested)
