Action Hampshire (funded by Wessex Cancer Alliance)

Communities Against Cancer grants

Small grants of £750, £1,500 or £2,500 for voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Dorset to deliver cancer awareness activity in their own communities, as part of Action Hampshire's Communities Against Cancer project funded by Wessex Cancer Alliance. The aim is earlier diagnosis: encouraging people to attend screening, get symptoms checked and talk about cancer. The project particularly wants to reach under-served communities, and grants are introduced through free online cancer awareness workshops.

Who can apply

  • Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Dorset that can deliver cancer awareness to their community, especially seldom-heard or under-served communities
  • No further criteria (legal form, income, track record) are published; Action Hampshire explains eligibility and how to apply at its online workshops or by email

What it funds

Cancer awareness activity delivered by a VCSE in a way that works for its community, to improve early diagnosis by encouraging people to:

  • Attend screening
  • Visit a GP to get signs or symptoms checked
  • Feel more comfortable talking about cancer

Previous grantees have organised events with free food, festivals, art and healthy eating workshops and storytelling evenings.

The project is particularly interested in under-served communities: people with learning disabilities, people on low incomes or experiencing homelessness, people experiencing mental health challenges, people from minority ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ people, and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

Grants are set at three levels: £750, £1,500 and £2,500.

How to apply

  1. Book a free online Communities Against Cancer workshop (listed dates: 20 August, 23 September and 21 October 2026, via Eventbrite), where Action Hampshire explains the grants and how to apply
  2. Contact the team at cac@actionhampshire.org to ask about eligibility and applying

No application form, deadline or assessment process is published on the website.
