Who can apply

  • Steering groups or other community-based organisations in East Cambridgeshire setting up a community-led development group such as a Community Land Trust or co-operative
  • Ideally the group should: have a bank account, or another organisation (such as a parish or town council) able to administer the grant for it; be representative of the community with an open, democratic membership; be clear about the community it serves, with a clear vision and project description; expect any long-term assets to be permanently affordable for local people on local wages; intend to show meaningful public engagement and general community support; and have evidence of backing from the wider community, such as the local planning authority
  • Groups with healthy balances will be expected to explain why they cannot pay for the work themselves

What it funds

  • Professional fees and technical costs associated with the legal set-up of a local community-led development group, such as the fee for legal incorporation
  • Contributions toward the costs of basic community engagement activities essential to build local support
  • Contributions toward developing a business plan

What it will not fund

Pre-development costs for established CLTs (the council's separate CLT Pre-Development Grant Scheme covers these)

  2. Complete the Community-led Development Set-up Grant Scheme application form (downloadable from the council's page)
  3. The completed application is submitted, with the Advisor's recommendation, to the appropriate council committee, whose decision is final
  4. If approved, sign and return the grant offer letter and meet any conditions; funds are then released

grant holders must report on project performance at least quarterly to a pre-agreed timetable

Have ready

  • The completed Set-up Grant application form
  • A copy of the latest bank statement, if the group has a bank account
  • Optional supporting documents such as a vision or mission statement, evidence of need and letters of support
