Who can apply

  • Households in Stockton-on-Tees that meet all three conditions: they own their home or rent from a private landlord; the home has an EPC rating of D, E, F or G (a survey can be arranged if there is no certificate); and they have an annual gross household income of £36,000 or less, receive certain means-tested benefits (for example Universal Credit or Pension Credit), or live in an eligible postcode area (deprived areas as ranked by the government)
  • Landlords of eligible privately rented homes can also take part
  • Living in an eligible postcode does not guarantee funding; all applications are subject to further assessment of the home, and any existing defects may need to be put right by the householder or landlord before works start

What it funds

Energy performance measures (up to £15,000) and low-carbon heating (a further £15,000). Improvements may include:

  • Insulation (floor, loft and wall)
  • Air or ground source heat pump
  • Smart heating controls
  • Low energy lighting
  • Solar PV
  • Energy efficient doors and windows

landlords can receive 100 percent funding for their first property and 50 percent for any additional properties.

What it will not fund

  • A new gas boiler
  • Households not in genuine need (the council may refuse to treat a property where the homeowner is not at risk of fuel poverty)
