The GSR Foundation
GSR Foundation Grants
Grants from the GSR Foundation, a UK-registered charity (CIO 1199228) and global grantmaker working to ensure that no one is excluded from the benefits of technology. It funds organisations using technology to reduce exclusion in three areas: Blockchain for Good, Education Infrastructure and Internet Provision, with no geographical restrictions. Much of its funding comes from proactive outreach, but organisations can introduce themselves through a short eligibility check and enquiry; strong fits are invited to a brief call and then a simple application. Pilots and small one-off grants often come before multi-year support.

- The Foundation looks for organisations using technology to create a more equitable world, with work in Blockchain for Good, Education Infrastructure or Internet Provision
- It looks for a clear problem, clear beneficiaries and measurable change; communities involved in design, delivery and learning; practical, safe technology appropriate to its context; and honest measurement it can share
- It has no geographical restrictions on where it funds (its partners include a digital skills centre in Brixton)
What it funds
Projects aligned with one of three focus areas:
- Blockchain for Good: harnessing blockchain to drive social impact and transparency
- Education Infrastructure: supporting access to learning tools and systems that empower communities
- Internet Provision: expanding connectivity so everyone can participate in the digital economy
- Within these, priority for: pioneering frontier tech on complex social problems (incl. blockchain); removing barriers to participation in the tech world; tech for excluded populations, designed or co-designed with communities; investable overheads that unlock scale (people, capacity, governance); strong learning partnership and credible track record or theory of change
- Overheads, especially salaries
pilots and small one-off grants often precede multi-year support.
What it will not fund
- Individuals
- Academic scholarships, or personal funding such as an individual scholarship or stipend
- Projects focused on profit generation, token issuance or trading
How to apply
- Complete the eligibility checker on the How we fund page (organisation type, where you are based, funding area, and whether the project is about profit, tokens or trading)
- If you look eligible, introduce your work briefly through the Get in touch form, ideally with a web link
- If you look like a strong fit, the Foundation sets up a short intro call
- Strong fits are then invited to complete a simple, co-created application
the Foundation reviews every message but only responds when there is a reasonable chance of success. Eligibility from the checker is indicative only.
