Who can apply

  • Individuals or families who live in, or are moving into, the trust's Area of Benefit, which covers NW3 and parts of NW8, NW6 and NW2 (a street-by-street boundary around Hampstead and Belsize Park in the London Borough of Camden), and who have not had a grant from the trust in the previous 12 months unless there are exceptional circumstances
  • The application must be made on their behalf by a local organisation that knows them and is providing ongoing or active support, such as a community organisation, advice agency, housing provider, the NHS or a local authority service
  • The trust looks for clear evidence of financial hardship, applications made as part of wrap-around support, and confidence that the grant will be used as intended
  • People elsewhere in Camden are pointed to the Camden Grants Information Map

What it funds

Up to three essential household items that the individual or family cannot afford and that will improve basic living conditions, dignity, safety or stability at home, including:

  • Beds and bedding
  • Clothing, including school uniforms
  • Sofas and essential household furniture
  • Curtains and contribution to flooring (flooring grants capped at £350)
  • White goods such as washing machines, fridge freezers and cookers
  • Small cooking appliances where needed to prepare food safely

in some cases items outside typical household essentials (for example laptops or bicycles) may be considered, where they show a clear and proportionate benefit such as access to services, reducing isolation, or a specific health, caring or wellbeing need, and form part of wider support.

What it will not fund

  • Education or training costs (such as course fees or study equipment)
  • Rent arrears
  • Debts
  • Applicants who have had a grant from the trust in the previous 12 months, unless there are exceptional circumstances
  • Applications made by the individual themselves, handwritten, posted or sent as PDF

How to apply

  1. The referring organisation downloads the current application form from the trust's website
  2. It types the form (not handwritten), giving the items requested with costs and quotes or links, why each is needed now, the client's circumstances, household income and expenditure, savings, and payee bank details
  3. It emails the form as a Word document (.doc or .docx) to grants@hwct.org.uk

payment is usually made by bank transfer to the referring organisation, which must keep receipts as proof of purchase; payment can sometimes go directly to the applicant. The closing date for the Christmas and New Year period is 7 December 2026 (payments by 16 December); applications reopen on 7 January 2027, and the current form is valid until 7 December 2026.

Have ready

  • Completed application form, typed, as a Word document
  • A quote or website link for each item requested

receipts for purchases must be kept, as the trust may ask for copies in routine or random checks.
