Chartered Accountants' Livery Charity

Single Donations

One-off grants, typically up to £5,000, from the charity of the Chartered Accountants' Livery Company for registered charities whose projects fit its objectives, especially education (with a focus on financial literacy, numeracy, literacy and digital skills) and social mobility and poverty relief for children and young people in need. The Trustees want a tangible outcome and are open to match-funding and to further support after the first grant. Applications need not be sponsored by a Company member, though member involvement counts in an applicant's favour. Trustees meet four times a year.

Who can apply

  • Registered charities (or other organisations) whose governance and approach to safeguarding are in order, which are solvent, and whose Charity Commission and Companies House filings are up to date
  • There is no geographic restriction, but the causes supported usually operate primarily in England and Wales
  • Applications do not need to be sponsored by a member of the Chartered Accountants' Livery Company; members are invited to sponsor applications from organisations they are involved with, and the Trustees treat a member's knowledge of an applicant as a key part of their due diligence

What it funds

Projects that fit the Charity's objectives, where the grant will make a significant difference and support a tangible outcome; the Trustees tend to support:

  • Causes related to education for all ages, with a focus on core enabling skills such as financial literacy, numeracy, literacy and digital skills
  • Causes that will increase social mobility and alleviate poverty in respect of children and youth in need
  • Causes associated with the accountancy profession, the City or the Livery
  • Causes supporting the welfare of personnel who belong or have belonged to the Company's military and other affiliations
  • Causes introduced by members of the Company and causes in which Company members are involved

the Trustees look kindly on projects related to disadvantaged children and youth, and are open to match-funding

What it will not fund

  • Political causes
  • Animal welfare
