Didymus

Didymus Arts Grants

Three-year grants of up to £10,000 a year for small registered charities delivering arts projects in Yorkshire or Greater London, covering running costs, project costs or capital. Didymus is an invite-only funder making just three or four grants a year: charities submit an expression of interest and a small number are invited to apply in full. Its stated priority is building the capacity of small charities that widen access to and participation in the arts.

Who can apply

  • UK registered charities only, with annual income between £20,000 and £1 million across each of the past three years, accounts and returns up to date with the Charity Commission, and at least two years of Commission records
  • Up-to-date safeguarding policies are required
  • The project must be delivered in Greater London — all 32 boroughs plus the City of London — or in Yorkshire, meaning East Riding, North, South or West Yorkshire
  • Applications are invited rather than open, so meeting the criteria permits an expression of interest, not an application

What it funds

  • Direct delivery of arts projects that widen access and participation, funded over three years for running costs, project costs or capital
  • Trustees look for clear community need, a conscious effort to widen participation in the arts, effective use of resources, measurable objectives, an evaluation strategy and robust safeguarding

What it will not fund

  • Organisations that are not registered charities, or whose Charity Commission accounts and returns are overdue
  • Charities with income above £1 million
  • Projects outside Yorkshire and Greater London
  • Retrospective funding
  • Unrestricted funding
  • Anything replacing statutory provision

How to apply

  • Submit the online expression of interest form on the Didymus website; it can be saved and returned to
  • A limited number of submissions are then invited to make a full application
  • An automatic confirmation email is sent on submission, so add the charity's address to your safe senders list

Have ready

The expression of interest asks only for organisation details, charity registration number, a project description of up to 250 words, and a contact person.
