CSIS Charity Fund
CSIS Charity Fund Grants for Organisations
The CSIS Charity Fund (registered charity 1121671), which is funded by the surpluses of the Civil Service Insurance Society, gives grants to organisations that help serving, former and retired civil and public servants in need, hardship or distress. Its main focus is annual grants to the main civil and public service charities, mostly existing partners. It will also consider other projects with a direct impact on that group, such as welfare or benevolent funds and retirement or bereavement support groups. It prefers organisations without other substantial income, where a one-off grant could make a real difference. You start with an eligibility enquiry.

Who can apply
- Organisations whose work directly helps serving, former or retired civil and public servants (and their dependants) in need, hardship or distress
- The Fund counts as civil and public servants: employees of government departments, agencies and non-departmental public bodies; anyone working in the NHS and care services; teachers and teaching assistants; police, fire and other emergency services staff; and employees of privatised companies that were once part of the civil service, such as BT, the Post Office and the railways
- It prefers organisations without other substantial sources of income, where one-off grants could make a real difference
- Grants must be paid into a business bank account in the recipient's name at a UK clearing bank
What it funds
- Annual grants to the main civil and public service charities
- Any project where there will be a direct impact on serving, former or retired civil and public servants in need, hardship and distress, for example welfare or benevolent funds and retirement or bereavement support groups
How to apply
- Use the enquiry form on the Fund's website (or email secretary@csischarityfund.org) to check whether you might be eligible
- If the Fund wishes to proceed, it sends an invitation to apply; submit the application
- If a grant is awarded, a Grant Award Letter sets the terms, alongside the Fund's General Grant Conditions
the Annual Report & Accounts on the website show the kinds of grants the Fund makes. Its funds are limited, and the 2026 business plan says income from the Society is falling.
