Baron Davenport's Charity
Baron Davenport's Charity Emergency Grants
One-off crisis grants, mainly for one essential household item, for disadvantaged single women living alone or only with their children in the West Midlands, within 60 miles of Birmingham Town Hall. Applications must come from a support worker at an organisation supporting the woman (not from individuals or councils), and the referring body administers the grant, including a supervised shop. Applicants must have exhausted public funds and not had an emergency grant in the last five years. Applications are assessed in date order, usually within 2-4 weeks.

- Referring bodies can include charitable organisations, health care and advice services, tenancy support, education services, NHS and primary care trusts

How to apply
- The support worker reads the Guidelines for Emergency Grants and the Privacy Notice
- Register the referring organisation online to receive an Applicant ID and Registered Organisation Name (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or gov.uk email addresses are not accepted)
- Complete the online application in full, confirming the applicant's explicit consent, and upload any quotes
- The charity assesses applications in date order (2-4 weeks) and emails any follow-up queries, which must be answered within four weeks
- The referring body is told the outcome by email, receives the cheque, organises a supervised shop and uploads receipts
if you cannot apply online, or want to check eligibility first, contact enquiries@barondavenportscharity.org or 0121 236 8004. There is no right of appeal, but a review with new information can be requested in writing within four weeks of the decision.
Have ready
- Documentary evidence that all possible support from public funds has been exhausted
- For flooring: quotes on the supplier's letterhead with the size and cost of flooring and fitting per room, rooms listed in priority order
- For a cooker: whether gas or electric, and a fitting cost
- For minor repairs: a detailed quote from a reputable trader
receipts must be uploaded after the purchase; the £200 settling in grant needs only confirmation that it was received and spent appropriately.
