Who can apply

  • Darlington households meeting all three conditions: (1) you own your home or rent it from a private landlord; (2) the home has an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D, E, F or G (the Council can arrange a survey if you have none); (3) low income, meaning one of: gross household income of £36,000 a year or less, receiving certain means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit, or living in an eligible (deprived) postcode area
  • Private landlords can apply for 100% funding on their first property and 50% on additional ones
  • The scheme targets households in fuel poverty; living in an eligible postcode does not guarantee funding, and funding is limited

What it funds

Energy-saving improvements installed free by the Council's approved contractor, E.ON Green Funding Solutions, which may include:

  • Floor, loft and wall insulation
  • Air or ground source heat pump
  • Smart heating controls
  • Low energy lighting
  • Solar panels (solar PV)
  • Energy efficient doors and windows

Funding is up to an average of £16,600 for energy-saving measures plus a further £16,600 for low-carbon heating systems. Highly efficient low-carbon heating is prioritised over fossil-fuel boilers.

What it will not fund

  • New gas boilers
  • Council or housing association homes (you must own your home or rent from a private landlord)
  • Homes rated EPC A to C
  • Households not at risk of fuel poverty (the Council may decide not to fund them)
  • Existing defects found at assessment, which the householder or landlord may need to fix before works begin

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the tenure, EPC and income conditions
  2. Contact the E.ON Green Homes Funding Team: apply online via the E.ON grant finder or call 03332 024820 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
  3. Your home is assessed; any existing defects may need fixing by the householder or landlord before work starts
  4. If eligible, E.ON installs the agreed improvements

Please apply only if you genuinely need support; all funding is limited and subject to further checks.
