Scottish Welfare Fund: Crisis Grant and Community Care Grant (Midlothian)

Two grants for Midlothian residents aged 16 or over on a low income. A Crisis Grant may help in a disaster such as a fire or flood, or an emergency such as losing all your money or having to visit a sick child in hospital. A Community Care Grant may help someone about to leave care to live in the community, or a family struggling to provide a safe and secure home.

Who can apply

  • People aged 16 or over in Midlothian who normally receive Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance (with no other household income) or Pension Credit, or who can show their income is so low that an award would be reasonable
  • You may also get a Community Care Grant if you are likely to get one of these benefits when you leave care
  • Crisis Grants are normally limited to 3 in any rolling 12 months across all councils, so grants received elsewhere count

What it funds

  • Crisis Grant: help if you are in crisis because of a disaster, like a fire or flood, or an emergency such as losing all your money or having to visit a sick child in hospital
  • Community Care Grant: help if you are about to leave care to live on your own in the community, or if you are struggling to provide a safe and secure home for your family

What it will not fund

More than 3 Crisis Grants in any rolling 12-month period across all local authorities (normally)
