The Incorporated Trustees of the Number 1 Trust Fund

Number 1 Trust Fund Grants

Grants for Church of England parishes and institutions whose work furthers catholic life and practice in the Church of England (as defined in the Fidelity Trust Act 1977). Trustees prioritise four areas equally: vocational and formational development, evangelistic and missional activity, stipend support for strategic posts, and church and other buildings. Grants from unrestricted funds will not normally exceed £20,000. The trustees set three deadlines a year; all of the 2026 dates have passed and 2027 dates are not yet published.

Who can apply

  • Parishes and institutions that can show how their application will further catholic life and practice in the Church of England (as defined in the Fidelity Trust Act 1977)
  • Trustees favour parishes, communities and organisations of a distinctively Catholic tradition where the historic priestly and episcopal ministry as received by the Church of England is maintained; applications that are part of a thought-through fundraising plan with approaches to several grant-makers; projects that clearly strengthen the mission of the local church or sit within a long-term strategic plan for growth; projects with demonstrable need and clearly defined outcomes; and applicants whose finances show the project could not proceed without the grant

  • Stipend support, strictly limited to posts deemed to be of strategic importance, made wherever possible in consultation with the Council of Bishops of The Society
  • Church and other buildings: the repair, restoration and refurbishment of churches and other church property used in the service of mission, e.g. church halls, parish offices and parish accommodation used to house a curate or other parish worker
