Who can apply

  • Constituted community groups or organisations with a written constitution or governing document, including volunteer groups, town and parish councils and charities
  • For-profit organisations and individual households cannot apply
  • The project must be based in Whittlesey, Coates, Eastrea, Pondersbridge or Ramsey Mereside (priority) or elsewhere within a 5 km radius of the Glassmoor wind turbines; projects beyond that radius are not considered
  • You need landowner permission, to have checked planning requirements, and to show local need (e.g. evidence that 50+ residents will benefit)

What it funds

Projects that enhance or protect the environment and educate people about an environmental issue. Examples:

  • Energy efficiency (insulation, efficient lighting, draught proofing, community engagement)
  • Renewable energy (solar panels, wind, heat pumps, biomass heating)
  • Water efficiency (rainwater recycling, grey water reuse, paving or communal planting to prevent flooding, compost toilets)
  • Wildlife (creating habitats, protecting species, restoring communal green spaces for wildlife)
  • Waste reduction and recycling
  • Sustainable transport (car sharing, bio-diesel vehicles, community cycling)
  • Increasing use of sustainable materials

The list is not exhaustive.

The fund can pay the whole cost of a project, though the committee may part-fund.

Applications are scored on location, environmental education, use of reduced/reused/recycled materials, resource saving, wildlife benefit, sustainability and local need; projects scoring 60 or more are approved if funds allow.

What it will not fund

  • Bids from 'for profit' organisations
  • Bids from individual households
  • Fulfilment of statutory duty
  • Running costs or maintenance
  • Projects without enough environmental or educational benefit
  • Projects where the works have been completed prior to approval (retrospective)
  • Projects beyond a 5 km radius of the Glassmoor wind turbines
