Who can apply

  • Voluntary and community organisations operating in and benefiting Breckland and its residents; parish and town councils within Breckland district; schools in Breckland for community activity outside the school day (before or after school or in holidays), not statutory or curriculum work; not-for-profit social enterprises and CICs (which must check Norfolk Community Foundation's guidance and provide a trading plan); and church/PCC groups for secular projects
  • Applicants must meet Norfolk Community Foundation's general eligibility criteria, and the applicant must be the organisation that receives the funding
  • Grants are for one year; an organisation can receive only one of these grants per financial year

What it funds

Community projects that align with the priorities of the Breckland Council Communities Grants programme and the Breckland Health and Wellbeing Partnership:

  • Breckland Council Communities Grants priorities: to address vulnerability and work with the most disadvantaged members of our communities to improve their life chances, with a focus on domestic abuse, mental health, social isolation and loneliness, and early intervention projects which prevent escalation into crisis
  • Breckland Health and Wellbeing priorities: preventing cardiovascular disease; improving mental health; tackling issues arising from alcohol dependency and other alcohol related concerns; a lifecycle approach (StartWell, LiveWell, AgeWell) promoting positive health outcomes for all age groups

the fund can establish new or strengthen existing community provision for care and support, and partnership working and sharing of skills and resources are encouraged. Groups can apply for all or part of the project cost.

What it will not fund

  • Organisations that are not appropriately constituted
  • Activities that have happened or will start before the grant offer is confirmed
  • Applications received less than 3 months before a project is due to start
  • Applications from groups who have not informed their Breckland ward member
  • Applications that do not clearly align with one of the Breckland Council priorities
  • Costs incurred before applying, or committed to before the grant offer is confirmed
  • Contingency costs
  • VAT that you can reclaim
  • Fundraising activities, for example raffle prizes for a fete
  • Loans or interest repayments
  • Projects or activities that the state has a legal obligation to provide
  • Projects that require planning permission but do not yet have it
  • Community building or play equipment improvements or sports activities, unless the costs clearly align with the Breckland priorities
  • Capital costs without a direct and measurable impact on the fund priorities
  • Benches, noticeboards, signs and similar items
  • Creating, maintaining or improving footpaths or trods
  • Organisations that have not completed reporting on a previous Inspiring Communities grant
  • Schools' statutory, curriculum-based or school-day activities

service providers that do not engage with the Breckland Collaboration Meeting or Breckland Community Network are less likely to be supported, and organisations Breckland Council already supports through other funding may be a lower priority.
