Foundation Derbyshire
Foundation Derbyshire Grants
Foundation Derbyshire gives small grants to community and voluntary groups, local charities and CICs working across Derby and Derbyshire. Most of its funds give up to £2,500, for equipment or for running costs such as rent and transport, over a 12-month period. You fill in one application and the Foundation chooses which of its 60+ named donor funds to put it to. There are no closing dates, and a grants officer helps you before the volunteer panel decides.

Who can apply
- Community groups, registered charities, CIOs and CICs based in Derby and Derbyshire
- You do not have to be a registered charity, but you must show 'evidence of some formal structure'
- There is no restriction on group size or how long you have existed, and the Foundation says it specialises in smaller groups of limited means
- No income limit is stated
- The rule is one group, one bid: only one application at a time, and past grant holders can reapply once a year has passed
What it funds
- Grants covering a 12-month period for capital (equipment) and revenue costs (general running costs including rent and transport)
- Priority goes to locally based and locally led groups
- Most funds give a maximum of £2,500 (since 1 April 2023)
- If your whole project costs more than £10,000, phone the grants team first
- It is not ineligible, but they need to check they can support it and help structure the budget
What it will not fund
- Profit-making organisations, businesses and sole traders
- Medical equipment
- Animal charities
- Any project which promotes faith or involves refurbishing or building a place of worship
- Statutory bodies (schools, hospitals, police etc.)
- Projects that directly replace statutory obligations
- Projects benefiting people outside Derbyshire
- Projects promoting a political party
- Retrospective funding (activities that have already taken place)
- Sponsored events raising funds for further distribution
- Groups with an active grant or a grant awarded in the last 12 months
- Groups with incomplete monitoring from a previous grant
National charities are rarely funded unless the bid is for a small, self-financing local branch or a distinct Derby/Derbyshire project.
