Peterborough City Council

Crisis Payment Scheme (Peterborough)

One-off payments from Peterborough City Council's Crisis and Resilience Fund (which replaced the Household Support Fund) for Peterborough residents aged 16 or over facing a sudden and unexpected financial crisis, such as being cut off from fuel, a broken boiler or appliance, fleeing domestic abuse, or lost or stolen money. Payments typically range from £50 to £150, though lower or higher awards are possible, and may be cash, vouchers or goods. You do not need to be on benefits, but savings must be under £1,000 (£5,000 at pension age); normally one award per household in a rolling 12 months.

Who can apply

  • Peterborough residents aged 16 or over who are currently experiencing a financial crisis and have savings of less than £1,000 (£5,000 if of pensionable age)
  • You do not need to be receiving welfare benefits
  • Applications are assessed per household, and evidence is needed for everyone in the household
  • Priority goes to first-time applicants and those not eligible for other help, with clear evidence of crisis, a risk of the situation worsening, and additional needs such as vulnerability, disability, health issues, caring or children
  • The scheme is discretionary and runs only while funds last

What it funds

One-off assistance for a sudden and unexpected financial crisis, for example:

  • Fuel poverty – having been cut off from fuel supply, or unable to afford immediate fuel costs
  • Inability to pay for heating, electricity, water or broadband services
  • Unexpected essential household expenses – e.g. boiler; car repair; household appliance (cooker, washing machine, fridge)
  • Costs of setting up a new home due to domestic abuse, fleeing violence or other household breakdown
  • Moving costs due to unsafe or unsuitable housing
  • Caring costs, particularly for supporting friends/family with disability or long term illness
  • Inability to pay for school uniform
  • Anyone affected by a disaster e.g. fire or flooding
  • Where money has been lost or stolen and living expenses are required
  • Short-term gap in regular income due to redundancy or a significant change in working pattern

What it will not fund

  • Day-to-day living costs or long-term support
  • Ongoing housing costs or unsustainable tenancies
  • Mortgage support
  • More than one award per household in a rolling 12-month period, except in exceptional circumstances, distinct crises or safeguarding cases

How to apply

  1. Gather evidence of income, savings and the crisis for everyone in your household
  2. Apply online through the Funding Connect platform (you can save the application and come back to upload documents)
  3. Evouchers reviews and processes the application and payment for the council
