Wandsworth Council's climate microgrants of £100 to £500 for individuals, community and faith groups, schools and non-profits living or working in the borough to run green events, activities and initiatives. What it funds
Events, activities and initiatives that help more residents engage in sustainable behaviours, adapt to the changing climate and learn about climate action, including projects that:
- Help people and nature adapt and build resilience to our changing climate, including extreme weather hazards such as flooding, heatwaves, drought and storms
- Improve or encourage biodiversity and local natural conservation
- Green and improve community spaces
- Engage and teach the wider community about the environment
- Encourage sustainable and environmentally minded behaviour and skills such as repair, upcycling and reducing waste
example projects include planting or re-wilding a community space, a repair or re-use initiative, a sustainable street festival, a nature trail, or an art and photography session celebrating the local environment. Projects showing wider community benefit are especially welcome.
What it will not fund
- Projects without relevant permissions, DBS checks and proper safeguarding
- Projects that have already taken place (retrospective applications)
- Initiatives that do not align with climate and sustainability themes
- Purchases of new items when second-hand, rented, or upcycled options are available
- Projects on your own private land that is not accessible to the community (for example, your garden)
- Projects where a more suitable Council fund is available (for example, physical improvements on council-owned housing estates should apply for a Small Improvement Budget grant)
- The same project from the same organisation more than twice across a year
How to apply
- Check your idea fits one or more of the green themes and get any permissions needed for the location
- Optionally email the Climate Change team to discuss your idea or get help with the form
- Complete the online application form (project description, delivery team, location, permission, start date, benefits, amount between £100 and £500 and how it will be spent, bank details), uploading a photo of a handwritten signature to confirm your bank details
- Submit by the round deadline; a council panel assesses applications every other month (schools termly)
- If successful the council contacts you with next steps and releases funds shortly after notification
you can request to submit a spoken video application instead, or ask for support via email; those without email can call 020 8871 6000 and ask for a callback from the Climate Change and Sustainability Team.
