idverde UK

idverde Community Investment Fund

A fund from grounds maintenance company idverde UK that pledges to community-led projects improving public open spaces on Spacehive, the crowdfunding platform. It runs only where idverde holds a contract with the council or local housing association, so idverde can also help with plants, tools and waste removal. idverde says it sets aside up to £40,000 a year and usually pledges up to £1,000 a project, occasionally more where that unlocks match funding.

Who can apply

  • Organised, not-for-profit groups with a formal constitution: for example charities, volunteer groups, 'Friends of' groups, community groups, wildlife groups, tenants associations, forums, sports teams, societies and schools
  • The group must be based in a borough where idverde currently holds a contract with the council or local housing association. idverde does not publish a list of these areas on the fund page

What it funds

Improvements to a public open space that is freely accessible to all, such as a park, playing field, recreation ground, playground, nature reserve, wood or cemetery:

  • Better facilities (e.g. a new swing)
  • Making the space look more attractive (e.g. new plants and shrubs)
  • Making it easier for everyone to enjoy (e.g. wheelchair access)
  • Making it more of a home for wildlife (e.g. bug hotels)
  • Equipment, plants, materials and tools
  • Leaflets or a website about improving the local patch
  • An event to launch the project
  • Training courses in horticulture, landscaping or conservation, and raising awareness of the local green space

What it will not fund

  • Individuals
  • Private schools, allotments, or any space where access is restricted or you have to pay to get in

How to apply

  1. Create a project on Spacehive for the improvement and set a fundraising target
  2. Submit the project to the idverde Community Investment Fund on Spacehive; if successful, idverde pledges to the campaign

Successful groups complete a publicity information form and are expected to take photos of the work.
