Hampton Fund
Hampton Fund Individual Grants
Grants from the Hampton Fund for individuals and families on a low income living in Hampton, Hampton Hill, Hampton Wick, Teddington, Twickenham, Heathfield or Whitton, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It helps with gas and electricity bills (one fuel grant a year, paid straight to your energy account), essential household items, half the cost of a Year 6 school residential trip, and a £100 voucher towards a child's first secondary school uniform. Fuel grants are decided by trustees every two months.

Who can apply
- Individuals and families who live in Hampton, Hampton Hill, Hampton Wick, Teddington, Twickenham, Heathfield or Whitton (London Borough of Richmond upon Thames) and are on a low income; for fuel grants the Mill Farm and Edgar Road estates are also covered
- If you are unsure whether you live in the area, contact the charity
- People claiming Universal Credit, ESA, Pension Credit, or earnings with Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit are treated as on a low income; for others, eligibility is assessed on disposable income after housing costs and other key outgoings
- The form asks whether anyone in the household has savings above £6,000
- School journey grants are for children in Year 6 (the form also says penultimate or final year) at junior school; uniform grants are for a child's first secondary school uniform
- A relative, friend or support worker can be authorised to speak to the charity on your behalf
What it funds
- Fuel grants towards gas and electricity bills, once per year (you can apply again the following year), paid only to British Gas, British Gas NEP Evolve, EDF, E.on Next, Octopus Energy, Ovo, Scottish Power or Utility Warehouse
- Essential household items: fridge freezer, gas cooker, electric cooker, washing machine, fridge, and single or double beds, bunk beds or mattresses
- School journey grants: part-funding for children in Year 6 at junior school to take part in the school residential journey before they transfer to secondary school; parents or carers pay half the cost, and where PGL covers part of the cost the charity tops this up so half is covered; paid directly to the school
- School uniform grants: a £100 voucher for your local school uniform supplier towards your child's first secondary school uniform
What it will not fund
- More than one fuel grant per year
- Energy suppliers other than those listed
- Repeat school uniforms
- Essential household items for people moving into their first home who are not working, receive benefits and have savings under £600: they must apply to Richmond Council's Local Assistance Scheme first, and only apply to the Hampton Fund if not eligible for it
How to apply
- Check you live in the area of benefit and are on a low income
- Complete the online application form, choosing any combination of fuel grant, essential household items, and school uniform or journey
- Give details of everyone in the household, each person's income, and any savings
- Upload proof of income and the supporting documents for the grants you are asking for
- Sign and date the declaration (type your name)
- For fuel grants, apply by the end of the month before a trustees' meeting (meetings in January, March, May, July, September and November); you are told the decision at the end of the month
the online form is strongly advised, but if you cannot use it you can print a blank form and post it with your documents to 15 High Street, Hampton, Middlesex, TW12 2SA. Trustees cannot consider an application unless every part is completed.
