The Andy Thomson Foundation

Andy Thomson Foundation Grants

One-off grants, mainly for capital needs, to small registered charities helping disadvantaged people, whether due to poverty, illness, disability or substance abuse. The foundation prefers charities in the Home Counties (it likes to visit the charities it funds) but not exclusively. There is no minimum grant; the FAQ gives a current maximum of £2,000. Applications are accepted at any time by form or email.

Who can apply

  • Registered charities only, with a focus on small charities where a small amount of money makes a big difference, helping disadvantaged people (poverty, illness, disability, substance abuse)
  • Preference for charities in the Home Counties, as the foundation is based in the South East and likes to visit the organisations it helps, but charities elsewhere are not excluded
  • Charities funded previously must wait 12 months after their last award before reapplying; unsuccessful applicants can reapply at any time

What it funds

  • One-off contributions, mainly towards vital capital expenditure that might make a big change to a small charity helping people disadvantaged by poverty, illness, disability, substance abuse or personal circumstances
  • Running costs are only funded when they are part of a project application
  • No minimum grant; current maximum £2,000 (the grant-making policy says most grants fall under £2,500)

What it will not fund

  • Organisations that are not registered charities
  • Running costs, unless part of a project application
  • Salaries
  • Multi-year funding (one-off grants only)
  • Charities funded in the last 12 months

How to apply

  1. Read the Grant Making Policy guidelines to check your project is eligible
  2. Complete the form on the Contact Us page with information about your charity and how the foundation can help, or email admin@andytfoundation.org attaching supporting documents (or post to Suite 104, Chynoweth House, Trevissome Park, Blackwater, Truro, TR4 8UN)
  3. Trustees decide on applications at their meetings

No deadlines; apply any time. If you have not heard within three months, assume you were unsuccessful. There is no appeals process; feedback is available by arrangement by emailing admin@andytfoundation.org.

Successful grants are paid as one lump sum, must be accepted within six months, should start being spent within six months, and require a report within six months of the project ending.
