Anthony and Gwendoline Wylde Memorial Charity

Anthony and Gwendoline Wylde Memorial Charity Grants

A small local trust giving grants to charitable organisations and individuals in the WV4, WV5, DY3, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, DY10 and DY11 postcode areas (parts of Dudley, South Staffordshire and Kidderminster, with particular interest in Kinver and Stourbridge). It runs two programmes. Small grants of up to £1,000 are decided as requests arrive, though awards are usually well below that. Large grants above £1,000 are decided at trustee meetings twice a year. Applicants must show the benefit of the grant and that other funding is not available, and the trustees favour educational grants for individuals.

Who can apply

  • Charitable organisations (charitable within the meaning of the law) and individuals in the WV4, WV5, DY3, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, DY10 and DY11 postcode areas
  • These cover parts of Dudley and Staffordshire and the Kidderminster area, with particular emphasis on Kinver, Kidderminster and Stourbridge
  • Applications from outside these postcodes are considered only in exceptional circumstances
  • The application form asks for charity registration and HMRC tax details
  • Applicants must confirm UK tax residency under the Common Reporting Standard, and organisations not registered as charities must also complete a supplemental tax information form
  • It also asks for filed annual reports and accounts, confirmation that the organisation is a going concern, and whether the accounts have been qualified in the past three years
  • Grants are not normally made to other grant-giving organisations

What it funds

  • A wide range of requests from local charitable organisations, provided the applicant can show the benefits of the grant and that other sources of funding are not available
  • Grants can go towards an organisation's operational costs or the cost of a specific project
  • Small grants (up to £1,000) can be made quickly for urgent needs
  • Large grants (above £1,000) are for non-urgent requests or those needing special consideration because of the amount
  • The trustees particularly favour educational grants (such as course fees) for individuals

What it will not fund

  • Organisations that are not charitable within the meaning of the law
  • Costs that can be met out of State resources
  • Applicants outside the WV4, WV5, DY3, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, DY10 and DY11 postcodes, except in exceptional circumstances
  • Other grant-giving organisations (normally)

How to apply

  1. Choose the right form: Small Grant Applications - Organisations (up to £1,000) or Large Grant Applications - Organisations (above £1,000)
  2. Download the PDF application pack from the relevant page, or ask the Clerk for a paper copy
  3. Complete the form: organisation details, registration and tax residency information, the purpose and cost of the grant, other funding, need, impact, beneficiaries, public benefit and financial information
  4. Email the form and supporting documents to the Clerk (total attachments under 20MB), or post them to The Anthony and Gwendoline Wylde Memorial Charity, c/o Higgs LLP, 3 Waterfront Business Park, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 1LX
  5. Small grant requests are decided by the Small Grants Committee as they arise; large grant requests go to the next trustee meeting (currently early May and late November)
  6. If successful, meet any grant conditions and reporting requirements (progress reports, a statement of spending and possibly a final report within six months of the end of the grant)

The trustees will not consider an application unless all the requested tax residency information is provided.

Keep the application clear and concise, and attach only the required supporting documents.

Unsuccessful applicants are told in writing, but no reasons are given.

Have ready

  • Completed application form with signed declaration
  • Governing document
  • Copies of the last filed trustees' annual report and accounts
  • Supplemental Information Sheet for CRS purposes (if not registered as a charity with the Charity Commission, OSCR, CCNI or HMRC)
  • Any additional information such as reports, brochures and testimonials (optional, if helpful)

The Charity requires all requested information before it can consider an application; missing information may cause long delays.
