This grant is no longer open.
Many funders run the same grant every year, so check the funder’s site for a new round. The details below are what the funder published when it was open.
Two Ridings Community Foundation
York Community Fund
Micro Grants of up to £1,000, spent over 12 months, for small voluntary and community groups with charitable aims based in and serving the City of York. The fund is a partnership of Two Ridings Community Foundation, City of York Council, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, York CVS and York Together, and a community panel decides awards. Projects must address at least one priority: affordability and cost of living, climate action, equalities and human rights, or health and wellbeing. The fund's larger Connect & Grow Grants (up to £13,500 over two years) are open only to groups whose expression of interest, due 14 Sep 2026, was shortlisted.

Who can apply
- Not-for-profit groups with charitable aims and an annual income or turnover under £500,000, based in and serving residents of the City of York
- They need not be registered charities: small voluntary organisations, community groups, small charities, and CICs or community benefit societies (where the funded work is wholly charitable, with an asset lock, a proper dissolution clause and at least three unrelated directors with equal control) can apply
- All applicants need a governing document in their own name with charitable objects and a charitable dissolution clause; a bank account in the organisation's name with at least two unrelated signatories (groups without one can use a fiscal host); at least three unrelated trustees, directors or committee members; and must be locally led and run (local branches of national charities with their own governance, accounts and bank account are eligible)
- Groups are usually expected to have been active for at least three months
- Where the fund is oversubscribed, groups applying only for a Micro Grant may be prioritised over those applying for both Micro and Connect & Grow
What it funds
Up to £1,000 spent over 12 months towards overheads, pilot projects, activities, projects or support, or small capital items; all types are treated equally. Overheads include office rent, heating, lighting, water rates, insurance, internet and phones, and back-office or core staff costs. Projects must address local need in at least one priority:
- Affordability and cost of living
- Climate action
- Equalities and human rights
- Health and wellbeing
Examples given: welfare benefits, debt, housing or emergency help; food and clothing banks, community pantries and sharing household items; support for people facing housing insecurity; community resilience to environmental challenges such as extreme weather; collaborations on long-term local environmental solutions; activities bringing people from different backgrounds together; safe spaces and peer support groups; wellbeing activities reducing isolation and improving mental health; support for volunteers and community leaders facing burnout; leadership development around strategy, capacity and governance.
Grants can cover 100% of costs, but priority is unlikely where the grant would be under 20% of total project cost.
The panel is particularly interested in projects involving people with lived experience, 'unpopular causes', and work on root causes.
