One Community Foundation
Community Grants Programme
Grants of up to £3,000 for small community groups and local charities in Kirklees, for any community or charitable purpose, including core costs. Only organisations with an annual turnover of £100,000 or less can apply, and not if they received a Community Grants Programme grant in the last 12 months. It is one application to a pooled programme: a single panel considers requests against about a dozen donor funds together (e.g. JL Brierley, Kirklees Community Fund, Kirklees Police Fund). Round 11 runs from 21 September to 6 November 2026.

Who can apply
- Organisations working in Kirklees: constituted voluntary, community and faith groups run for and by local people; registered charities and groups with charitable purposes; CICs that do not and cannot pay dividends; Community Amateur Sports Clubs whose governing documents include a community benefit clause, open membership and an asset lock; and schools, PTAs and PFAs
- The organisation's annual turnover must be no more than £100,000, and it must not have received a Community Grants Programme grant in the last twelve months
- All applicants need at least three unrelated trustees or directors and a bank account in the organisation's name with at least two unrelated signatories
- The Foundation checks that the applicant is based in Kirklees, that its governing document has a dissolution clause and covers the proposed activity, and, for CICs and social enterprises, that there is an asset lock
- It rejects applicants with qualified accounts or an active Charity Commission regulatory warning
What it funds
- Any type of community or charitable project taking place in Kirklees, for example staffing costs, volunteer costs, equipment, rent and event costs
- It covers project costs, core costs, and increased running costs of the charity or community project, such as utilities affected by the cost-of-living crisis
What it will not fund
- Individuals
- Party political activity
- Promotion of religion
- Replacement of statutory funding
- Project costs that have already been paid for, or activity that has already taken place
- Groups who have not complied with previous monitoring requirements
- Organisations that predominantly support animals
- Charities with qualified accounts, under investigation by the Charity Commission, or with an active warning on the Charity Commission website
- Organisations with an annual turnover over £100,000
- Organisations that received a Community Grants Programme grant within the last twelve months
How to apply
- Read the Community Grants Programme guidance and criteria pack
- Gather the supporting documents and a budget breakdown
- Click 'Apply now – CGP Round 11' on the One Community grants page and enter your email address to receive a unique link to the online application form
- Submit the application before Round 11 closes on Friday 6 November 2026
Set your project start date at least 8 weeks after the round's closing date; applications with an earlier start date are withdrawn, because the Foundation cannot fund activity retrospectively.
Unincorporated associations and clubs also need identity verification for all committee members, two independent references and a conflict of interest policy, and a call or Teams meeting will be arranged.
Officers can answer questions about the fund but cannot help write the application.
This is not the Community Grants for Climate Projects Fund (formerly Better Neighbourhoods).
Have ready
- Governing document, articles of association or constitution, signed and dated
- Bank statement in the organisation's name, dated within the last three months
- Latest set of accounts, or a cash flow document where this is not possible
- Document listing the names and home addresses of your directors, trustees or management committee, showing which trustees are bank signatories
- Budget breakdown of the total project cost
- Quotes for individual capital items over £500
The criteria pack says that organisations that have applied in the last two years need only the bank statement and accounts (registered charities: only the bank statement), plus the governing document if it has changed. The trustee list, budget breakdown and quotes come from the Foundation's general FAQs.
