Leeds Community Foundation

The Leeds Fund Microgrants

Small grants for Leeds groups with an income under £75,000, aimed at making an organisation stronger rather than funding a one-off activity alone. Up to £500 for informal, unconstituted groups and up to £2,500 for formally constituted organisations. Priority goes to organisations established in the last five years, and at least 20% of the fund is reserved for applications supporting under-represented communities.

Who can apply

  • Organisations must have had an income under £75,000 in the most recent financial year, be based in Leeds or have a demonstrable connection to Leeds communities, and run the activity in Leeds
  • Only one application per organisation per round
  • For grants of £500 or less: incorporated not-for-profits (CIO, CIC limited by guarantee, charitable companies) registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or the FCA Mutuals Public Register; small unincorporated or unregistered organisations with annual income under £10,000; and small groups with no constitution but at least three members and income under £10,000 — in both cases provided the grant would not push income above £10,000 this financial year
  • For grants up to £2,500: incorporated not-for-profits, and small unincorporated organisations on the same income conditions

What it funds

  • Organisational development that increases capacity or helps develop strategy
  • One-off projects, or expanding existing activity
  • Work that makes a group stronger — training for staff and volunteers, time for policy or process development, employability programmes, consultation on areas such as marketing, and testing new activity
  • Work on issues that matter locally, such as health and wellbeing, providing new experiences, creating safe and friendly communities, and learning new skills
  • Priority is given to applications that build organisational resilience

What it will not fund

  • Activity or costs already incurred
  • Anything discriminatory, or that excludes people without good justification
  • Promotion of a political or religious viewpoint
  • Activity primarily benefiting animals
  • Capital appeals for building projects
  • Grant-making on to other organisations or individuals, and applications from individuals
  • Statutory organisations or activity
  • Overseas organisations, expeditions or travel
