The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights
Shipwrights' Responsive Donations
Grants for maritime and waterborne projects and activities that give young people the chance to learn new skills, from the Shipwrights' Charitable Fund. Applications are accepted at any time but are only considered at the Education and Charity Committee's three meetings a year, in February, June and November. The Company favours organisations with low administrative costs, and grants for heritage projects such as restoring classic vessels come with specific extra tests.

Who can apply
- Individuals and organisations whose cause is maritime or waterborne and offers young people the opportunity to learn new skills
- The Company says it focuses support where it believes it can make a real difference, so that contributions reach the individuals who most need support and those organisations which have low administrative costs
- Applicants are encouraged to show how their cause will help the Company achieve its objectives, and to answer the question the committee asks itself: what makes this case deserving of support from charitable funds? Grant recipients are asked for a report describing the impact of the award, the value gained and the number of people assisted, and these reports are shared with the Company's membership
- Long-term projects require regular reports and confirmation of ongoing viability
What it funds
Maritime or waterborne projects and activities offering young people the opportunity to learn new skills and develop. Grants for heritage projects, such as the restoration of classic vessels, usually need to show:

- That it will continue to be used for educational or charitable purposes
- That it is listed by the National Historic Ships Committee
Past recipients include sail training organisations, boat building academies, children's sailing charities and sea cadet units.
What it will not fund
- Applications that do not fit the Shipwrights' maritime and educational charitable criteria - these are rejected on acknowledgement
- Applications considered outside the three committee meeting dates - these are not routinely considered, nor grants awarded, between meetings
